Default KX80 Clutch Springs

All, I've been visiting the site for a little bit and just joined as I am in the final stages of finishing a total rebuild on a 1983 kx80. One quick question. How tight should the bolts be that hold the clutch springs in the basket? I thought at first they were supposed to be tightned all the way but then realized that there was no travel between the plate on top of the springs and the throwout bearing. The result was the clutch being fully engaged. Is there a torque spec or am I supposed to unscrew a certain distance? Thanks will post pics later.

There is a torque spec, but I don't know what it is. They are supposed to be tight, I'm sure the manuel will tell you the spec.

Thanks, but no manual. I re-read my first post and would like to clarify, When I tightened the plate that holds the springs in all the way until it bottomed out; the clutch was engaged. by engaged I mean it was locking all the bits of the engine together. Which is cool right? I guess what I'm struggling to understand is how the throwout bearing is supposed to release the pressure on the plates. I've replaced the clutch on my car before, but this is a little bit of a different setup

Yeah, that is the way it is supposed to be.

I just redid a 93 kx 80 for my nephew and if i'm correct it's 78 inch lbs for the clutch spring bolts. Matter of fact looking at my kdx200 manual and it's the same. I will check the kx80 manual in the morning but i'm pretty sure that is it. Run them down even so you get an accurate read on them.
