VIN question

I have 2 bikes, a KX80 bigwheel (91) which has a 17 digit vin, and I have what I think is either an 01 or 02 kx250. The vin on the neck is only 13 digits however, and kawasaki.com doesnt recognize the vin. It was difficult to read because there was a bit of paint on it, but I scratched the paint off and there is still only 13 digits, which are KX250LE022154. This is odd no? According to the kawasaki website there should be 17 digits for the VIN. I scratched most of the paint off in front and after the numbers and there are no stamps in the metal like the rest of the numbers. is there another way to find out about my bike? Where is the engine stamp at? I bought this bike from a friend who bought it from a friend who did a lot of work to the bike because he was all into raceing and stuff.

It's not the VIN. The VIN should be JKAKXMLC********* for the 00 and 01 models. What's strange is that LE is an engine number. The head stock number should be KX250L-******

I cant find one. The number I put before (KX250LE022154) was stamped onto the neck on the right side. The left side of the neck just had where it was made stamped into it. I couldnt find any numbers anywhere else. A lot of stuff has been redone on the bike. Ive been trying to find it since i got it over a year ago to be sure I got the right manuel for it, and unfortuantly, the guy i bought it from said he *thinks* its a 2002. Now, I did buy the left side radiator and the rear brakes for an 02 and they worked.
