Are you saying it does not like to rev up very far in the first two gears? Its easier to pul the lower gears, than the taller ones, so just missing your problem i think.

I think what he is saying is that he hasn't much power in 1st and 2nd gear, if i'm right and thats what he is saying then here is my answer to him:
Its a small 2 stroke, all small 2 strokes have very "close" powerbands in the bottom 2/3 gears and wont go very fast as those gears are for getting moving not for going fast/cruising. Even on medium sized 2 strokes like 125s and 200s you will not have much power in 1st/2nd. I myself have not ridden a 500 but I imagine to some extent that they are the same.

Yea you can compare it to the tuned 85. The three things i look at first when i get one that bogs or has no power is. The power valve it may be completely gunked up or came way out of adjustment and it's not breathing right. Also the reed valve on the carb side they just wear out. but i dont think i would be that drastic more like loss in hp. And lastly is a toasted ring. Everything is still spinning but maybe you lost compreesion and not getting the bang for you buck. Another thing that i have seen is sometimes the case will leak and suck air and you can get all kinds of wacky stuff going on. If you can hold a smooth constant idle your case is most likey sealed. Things i would do check the power valve should be closed at idle or reall close to closed and check the reed valve were the carb connects they break down and become sloppy and could crumble if given enough time.

Get this bike race tuned, THEN compare them. And bear in mind, this bike is a 80, not an 85.

I have a 94-kx80 and if I let it hit powerband in second gear and hold it. Up comes that front wheel and it don't stop until I let off. I weigh 175 lbs??
I would chk compression first...maybe time for a topend. |
