Hello everyone. This is my first post and first motorcycle rebuild project.
I bought a 1987 KX250 junker for a winter project. It has a lot of problems and one of them is that the Stator & Rotor was subjected to moisture at one time or another and is "very" rusted and corroded and needs replaced. (Even the rivets on the Rotor are loose). I have been unable to find a Model Specific replacement, and was curious if a later year Stator & Rotor would work if I replaced the wiring, coil & igniter? I have located a "complete" Rotor, Stator, Coil and Igniter with wiring harness from a 2002 KX250 and was wondering if it would be possible to "swap" these out?
Would the 2002 Rotor and Stator physically fit on my 1987 KX250? What about the Rotor to crankshaft fit?
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

"if" they had one. They ask me to bring my old one in so they could compare it to the ones they have on hand. Might have to go that route next week if I can't find one more reasonably priced.
