Question tank bags or rear seat bags

Just wanted to get some opinions. I need some way to carry some stuff on my bike (other than a backpack)...currently it has about a cubic half-inch of storage space. Does anyone use tank bags or rear seat bags on their sport? I got the joe rocket Manta tank bag, but it was smaller than I thought. I'd like to get something about the size of the average backpack, but something that isn't too "boxy." Does anyone have any suggestions, and do you like tank bags vs. rear seat bags for any reason? Thanks for any comments.

go here and check out the different options there are for bags. I'm thinking about going with both for the trip this July. http://www.kneedraggers.com/list/5.8

Um, why not both? I have the Manta tank bag. I like it because it's low profile and doesn't block my guages. Tourmaster makes some nice tank/tail/saddle bags; I also considered the Joe Rocket Velocity bags. I eventually got a tail bag by Oxford which is pretty nice. I'm going to get the matching saddlebags also, but will need a bigger bike to use them. My tail pipes are too close to my seat to use those without burning them (the downside of a bitty bike )

I won't be taking an big trips soon or anything, and trying to save some $$ after dropping half my life savings on the bike, other gear, and what not. Was looking for something juuuust a bit bigger than the manta...also wasn't sure if people would highly recommend a tank bag over rear seat bag, or vice versa. But, I might look into getting both at some point, probably good to have. Thanks for the info! (thanks GK also)

I have a Tour Master Cortech sport tail bag. I bought it at www.newenough.com and am very pleased with it. It's not real large, but it's pretty close to backpack size. Cortech Sport tailbag

Default Nelson-Rigg Bike Luggage

I've got a 500R and a full set of Nelson-Rigg soft-side touring luggage. (See photo.) I use the MG-950 tank bag like a small briefcase to carry my cell phone, PDA, etc. I use the TP-902 tailbag as a gym bag. I once got a week's worth of groceries into the whole setup (saddlebags included), but that really loaded me down.

I like my tank bag when doing day trips (beach/cruising around). When I go overnight I need a back pack as well though, I do not think I would like the rear seat bags or at least the ones I've seen for my bike!!!!!!!!Tim
