Default need help on how to read my ohmmeter

I need some help on learning how to read my ohmmeter. I was trying to take test on a stator and the reading i got from my meter was way different from what i was suppose to get i even had my meter set to the other scales like M, K and Ohms which i had it on to test the stator. The funny thing is the reading i got made me think the stator was bad but i had a preffesional test it and the stator was good. I am confused here..i really want to learn how to read my ohmmeter. Anyone have any idea how i can find a book or video on how to do this correctly or how to take these test on electrical components. I am very eager here eyes hungry for info. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
