Default Valve adjustment on 650R

Planning on buying a 2009 model this week and was hoping someone could tell me the valve adjustment intervals. The dealer is closed this weekend so I can't ask them

It should be listed in your manual on the bike. I think theres the first one at 600 miles, then I THINK it goes to something like 12k mile intervals.

Personally I'm anal about keeping my engine in top shape, so I adjust valves every 5k just to be safe. minimum of check clearances, but I'll adjust if i need to.

I have no idea what the exact service schedule is for that particular bike.
But as a shop owner that works on a ton of bikes, i would suggest you check the valves initially at say 2,000 or 3,000 miles, and then are likely good until every 10,000 to 15,00 after that first one.

It of course depends on your riding style.

But also remember that while it may sound like a big job, checking valves is actually a very easy job.

While some manuals say to check the valves at say just 600 miles, i have not seen valves out of spec that early, they usually require a bit longer IMO.

On my own bikes, I tend to check them at say 2,000 or so the first time.
Lots of times even then they are fine, but i am anal about maintenance, and would rather be sure they are fine, than just ride it and not know for sure.

For the 1st generation it's 26K miles. I can't imagine the 2nd generation 650R would be any different.

No, the initial 600 mile service is a "glorified oil change" as the owner at the shop that I bought my Z1000 told me. The oil gets changed and then the tech goes down a long list of bolts, parts, fluids, etc. A valve adjustment is not on the list.

Bingo! The 2nd Gen engine was re-tuned a little for more low end torque but nothing else.
