Default new tires...

Hey all...

Ok, lets say I purchase tires online and have them shipped to my house. Is it possible to mount the tires myself? or will I have to lug them to a place to do that for me? Also, do you think it is better to purcahse the tires online and bring them to be installed...or just buy the tires from the shop which would be installing them?

Thanks,

Vaedyn

You could certainly mount them yourself if you have the proper tools..tire irons air supply, wheel balancing equipment, etc, but I let the dealer mount my last tire which I bought online because of the lower price. It all depends on your dealer price opposed to an online source after considering the shiping & tax.

Some dealers offer discounts for mounting and balancing if you buy the tires from them. Call around and see what they say.

I've heard Cycle Gear (franchises around the west) will mount a tire for eight bucks.

I just bought new tires for my bike so I stopped in at my dealer. He wanted $60 per tire to mount and balence it whether I bought it there or not. So instead I bought a tire mounter from Harbour Freight.

I mount my own tires, but if you care about your rims you have got to be real carefull. Most shops will mount them for you alot cheaper if you remove the rims from the bike yourself and take them to them.

Wings, here in Bellingham, WA. will mount your tires for free if you buy them there, and take your wheels off.

Take a look at this site a decide if you want to try mounting yourself. Cyclegear in Orlando charges $28 to mount a tire on a loose rim.
