5 days ago I purchased an 05 250 ninja from the dealer. Since then I have had a lot of trouble getting the bike to go into neutral. I'm not sure where that problem is but I've tried rocking the bike, tapping the shifter-no luck. My husband seems to always fix it and get it into neutral. Has anyone else had this problem? Today the bike sat outside for several hours until dark. It was dewy. It started just fine and idled for a while. My husband tried to take off and the lights flashed and everything went dead. After that nothing would happen. When the key is on it's still dead. Battery connections look ok. Does it sound like a selenoid problem, or loose wiring? It makes a sound that reminds me of a power surge coming through a big speaker-a high pitched sound even when everything is shut off. Does anyone know if the dead electricals may be related to the neutral trouble? Of course the bike is warrantied but I am a VERY new rider and I want to be sure the dealer fixes the problem right and doesn't mess with me. I don't want to be afraid of my bike. PLEASE HELP! Thank you so much!

The problem with not going into Nuetral can be because the clutch cable isnt adjusted right. This can be done by lookin where the lever is and turning the adjust wheel in or out, as you do this you will notice when you put it in gear the clutch will grab either further out or closer, alot of times this will cause it not to go into neutral if its not adjusted right, if your up to it try to adjust it or let your husband adjust.
Also make sure you give the bike a good firm half click up into neutral, even wearing certain footwear can make it harder to get into neutral or any gear. Now, as for the dead bike, check under the seat where the battery is, and make sure that there isnt any connectors next to it loose or undone. There is one connector that probally runs inline with the main ground wire that could have come undone and will cause some weird stuff to happen. Check the fuses also. I would say that a dead battery could be possible but would be rare for it to start then die when you go to take off. I used to own an older 600 ninja that basically was designed back in the day when the 250 was designed so alot of problems on the old 600 show up on the 250 also. Nuetral problems were common on it.

Thanks all for your help!!! Turns out the battery was no good. Dealer replaced it for me. I had no idea the battery could quit if the bike was already running. Other possibility was the stater that charges the battery-highly unlikely in a new bike. I'm sooo glad it's the battery and not something more involved. Thanks Again Everyone!!!
