First Mods...

I am looking for suggestions on what I should modify on my '06 Ninja 500 this Winter. I am in Pittsburgh, so I will be unable to ride for some time.

I was considering everything from changing the exhaust to a single to getting new mirrors or getting a new windshield or getting a fender eliminator or etc...

Keep in mind I am new to Bike mods, so I would like to start with something that does not require me to drill holes or any major "custom" modifications. I am looking for something beginner to intermediate range.

Also, cost is somewhat of a concern - nothing too expensive.

A new windscreen and a fender eliminator would be the first things to do. If you change the exhaust setup you'll have to rejet the carbs, which can be a lot of work if you've never done that before.

What about adding an LED taillight with integrated turnsignals when doing the fender elimination? Or, did I just take it too far?

Tweak, IMHO it's your baby, and you're personalizing it to make it more enjoyable for you. If you like it, it's not "taking it too far". As far as the LED taillight with integrated turn signals, that's one of the mods I'll be doing to my new 636 when she comes home in addition to the Akropovic slip on exhaust and frame sliders..
