Question 1983 gpz 1100 2 cylinders wont fire!!!

I switched the coils around to see if the coil was the problem but it wasnt, thats when i noticed the ground wire on the coil not fireing is hot.It acts like it wants to start at first but then nothing.Ive had the bike 2 months and never heard it run but the guy i bought it from said it runs good!lol yea,right....the right side coil is fireing fine and vice versa if you switch sides.what in the world could be wrong!!!??why would the black wire on the left coil have power in it?I would think it should be a ground and the red should be hot,,im puzzled

Did you check the black wire with or with out it hooked up to the coil? If you are getting power there when it's not hooked up i'd say the igniter is bad.

The black wire is hot when i hook it to the coil and the red wire is staying hot.I unhooked the IC Igniter and it is still hot.The right side is working as it should.I switched the coils around and same thing. So,its def not the coil and it does it with the ic igniter unhooked so im puzzled!! Thank for any help anyone can give me.

I'd trace the wire and make sure there are no shorts or back yard engineering done to it. Someone hooking things up wrong. Especially if you have power with the igniter unhooked. Note: if you have the red wire on the coil and hot you will get a power reading on the other one.(power through the coil) Take reading with the wires off the coil. The red wires should be hot(+ power) and the other two wires should go back to the igniter. They are the trigger wires(fire the coil)(- power).

I think i found the problem. The coil thats not fireing is bad becouse when i hook the +(red) to the coil the - terminal becomes hot as well and the other coil (that works) doesnt do that. Thanks a million for the help! Now to find a replacement for it
