Problem with my clutch lever

I ride a 98 vulcan 800 and so far i have only had this one problem. When i pull the clutch lever all the way in it does not engage the clutch all the way. When i put it in first the bike jumps. If im in first with the lever pulled in it will not, it acts as if it would if you parked it in first gear. Does anyone have any suggestions on any adjustments that mught solve this problem? Any help would be great.
