Hey everyone-
New to the site, but love the great info people have to share! Just bought a 2005 Ninja 500R. Never have ridden, got a good deal, and loved friends bike! I want to Winterize and change oil and filter. Any suggestions for brand of oil (3000 miles on bike), filter, and where the best place to buy this stuff is. I know that I could take it in, but I don't want to pay the money and I plan on riding a bunch when the weather turns nice. Pretty stoked about it! Anyone have any info? Thanks Ryan |

Oil wise I would stick with regular dino until you get a couple more thousand miles on it then I would convert if you want to synthetic. Filter wise I use on my bike Puralator's that Pep Boys sells for around $6.
I buy my mobil 1 synthetic motorcycle oil (MX4T) for bikes at Napa or Autozone but any brand motorycle oil should work and be available at your local shop or even auto parts store. Rule of thumb with motorcycle oil is never use any regualar car oil that has friction modifers in it as this will slip the clutch on your bike, the only oil that most guys use for cars that runs fine in bikes is Mobil 1 15-50 as this has no friction modifiers.
