Default 2006 zx6r paint question

just bought a 2006 zx6r. The paint is satin blue. I was wondering if i am able to wax the paint. It is metallic, but its a flat paint or a flat clear. Does anyone on here have paint like that? How do you care for it?

You can wax any paint. You should wait a couple months for the paint to cure though.

Hey ZX, correct me if I'm wrong but if you use a detergent,(i.e. dawn or era,) doesn't it seem to strip off any protection and make the paint fade quicker,I too have worked in spray paint, only in automotive.I have never used any detergent to wash a bike or auto, only a wash and wax meant for clearcoat finishes. As for waxing Jimmy h was right let the paint cure for atleast a month before even thinking about waxing, even though the bike was probably painted a couple of months before the dealer got it, but unless they bake on the finish, I don't know, it probably has been sitting in a closed building which takes it longer to loose all the reducers and thinners. For cleaning while you wait you could use a detailer as long as no wax is used in the detailer for cleaning the dust and bugs off. I have never seen any paint be it satin or glossy getr any shinier with the more wax you put to it, I have seen glossy get more dull due to improper washing and drying then wax while dirt was still present. Hope it helps

the paint is baked from factory and with most paint u can strip any protective coating with detergents and it will cause it to fade quicker so u do have a valid point.i asked my dealer for his opinion and he said that most of the satin finish bikes that come back after 6months r sunfaded or becoming shiney unless there garaged all week and only ridden on weekends.i also have a mate with the titanium 10r he waited 6months to wax and after 2months its starting to shine at the tank already.I guess thats why they stoped using mono metallics years ago .6 and half dozen of the other i spose.
