Unhappy I cant decide Between a 1991GPZ500 and a 1992 Ninja 250

Guys i cant decide wich is the correct bike for me.
Yesterday i found a GPZ500 very cheap ( Same price as a Ninja 250). I dont know about the GPZ 500 parts if they are available, because here are not common the 500 model. But it is very pretty. The seller says that he need the money now, because he has some many debts. I have some doubts about the bike, but i still think that the price is very nice.

Some doubts that i have about the bike:

1. Oil throught the exhaust.
2. 1 exhaust, not two... i dont know the reason. Its not a Yoshimura or some sport exhaust.
3. The left side has scratches.
4. I dont know how is the engine ( strong or it has a lot of issues). I know that the ninja 250 has a long life engine.

It seems that this guy had an accident. He told me that he hasnt had one, so the frame is ok. ( i think that an accident where the frame had not suffer any damage is not an accident).

Well i want to read some suggestions please. Sorry i am doing a lot of questions, i dont know too much about bikes, so its important for me.

I have readed a lot about the 250, but now i need info about the 500 and i dont have too much time.

Regards and thank you very much for your help.

The 500 seems to have a few things wrong with it. me personally id rather spend more on a bike that is in good condition not in need of repair. The 500 seems a bit dodgey especially the part about the accident and if you dont know that much about bikes mechanically id probably look around for a better deal. just my .02 . Dont rush into anything your not sure of and if you know anyone with a bike take them with you to have a better look, they might spot something you didnt

Good advice, take someone else that knows about bikes. If you can, get someone that can ride it to. The GPZ is bigger but the 250 pprobably more reliable and great to learn on. Don't act in haste, it will bite you every time, and there is always another deal around the corner. A bike that has been down in a crash or fall will have signs on the tankm grips, foot pegs, muffler and any other surface that sticks out from the bike.

You already got some good advise up there...

First bike?

If it is, and you really pick up on the sport, your going to want to upgrade to a larger bike in a year or so anyway.. I would take the one that appears to have been maintained the best. Dont be shy, ask for service reciepts, take the plastics off, etc..

x2 on the bring a friend that knows bikes!!

congrats on the purchase, take it slow and easy while you learn (slower than your choice to buy)

Congratulations and welcome to the madness!
It really should be a good bike for you. The motors are generally bulletproof. I was concerned about you stating there was oil through the exhaust but apparently your mechanic wasn't concerned about it. They have decent handling. The suspension can be suspect, but I know you're dying to spend some money on upgrades!
The riding position and handlebar type/position are excellent for learning as well. IMO it's easier to learn countersteering on these type bikes than it is most sportbikes and cruisers. Also spend a bit of time checking your bars and levers-you can adjust them to fit your hands if you need to.
I'd hope that parts availability won't be an issue. I'd be surprised if it is; it may require some searching though. Your tire choices may be a bit limited as well.
Given the age of the bike (and mileage?), I'd advise to check most maintenance items as soon as you're able. Valve clearance (and have the cam chain tensioner checked) carburetor adjustment and synchronization (and check vacuum hoses for condition), throttle and clutch cable condition and adjustment, brake fluid, pad, and hose condition to start with. Also be sure to check the inside of the fuel tank for any evidence of rusting.

Yes. I am very sad.
When i call to investigate the legal stuff of the bike, i discovered that it has some problems. Not serious but i should need a lot of time to fix it, and i havent right now.
I called the seller...
Man i am sorry but i cant buy it.
i have looked a bike like that for mounths. Investigating, reading, posting....
I cant believe it. Its so hard in this country to find something good and with the correct legal papers ok.
