Hi i have a 1991 gpz- 500 american import it only has 1100 miles on it and has been a dream bike until now,the problem is the starting motor is turning but i am getting no compression at all,i have a haynes manual and it suggests that the problem is the starting motor clutch i removed the casing but then it said i need a special tool to remove the alternator rotor is there any other way to do this??also one of the magnets on the rotor was broken in a few pieces, will the rotor need replacing??Thanks

I'm no expert but that doesn't sound good about the rotor. Welcome and I'm sure someone with experience will respond soon.

I had to remove that on my EX500 (same engine I believe), I just bought a bolt from fastenall and screwed it in with an impact wrench. That worked well for me, but I had the impact wrench, if you can keep the rotor from rotating, you could probably do this with a regular wrench.
