Default need help understanding what chain and sprocket kit to get

ok well i did some research but i really dont know anything about this so. I know the stock size is 15-40 and stock chain is 525. I allso know that i want sprocket specialist sprockets and either RK or DID chain. Well my question is how many teeth should i get for the front and rear. I want larger rear and smaller front for better accelaration. I allso want a size that wont wear fast like the 520 kits. So if anyone can give me some help on this topic anything would be great thanks alot.

The most common replacements are a -1 tooth on the front and a +2 on the rear. From what I've read it's not wise to go down any more than than the 1 tooth on the front (too much stress on chain). I've not seen anybody go up more than 2 teeth on the rear (I'm guessing because of performance).

-1 in the front is supposed to be something like +10 in the rear. I had a 92 zx6D with the same set up as yours. I left the the front at 15 and increased the rear to 45. Lost a little top end but the take off was worth it. It now topped out at 220km/h instead of 230km/h pretty much. And it was more fun to come out of a curve or corner fast than go a little faster in a straight line on the hwy. I also converted to the 520. I don't think it wears any different but I don't know. It's done more because it's alot lighter and reduces chain lash and the overall bike weight.

I garee with no more than 1 less tooth on the frt. sprocket.
Chain strain around a smaller sprocket is an important consideration.

unless your going to the track, -1 and +2 could be too much.. honestly never rode the bike you have, but if its just for extra snap down low and harder pulls on the street, i would do either -1 front or +2 rear, not both..

"Extra snap down low" I like that.

The accepted factor is one tooth in front= three teeth in back.

Heh, i dropped 2 teeth in the front of my ex500, i lost about 10 mph on the top-end but gained good midrange and low power. Havent had any trouble with it in the last 2 yrs. That was also with stock chain. But the 500 might be a little different beast.

really all depends on what you want to do with it. if you want a better hole shot without really worrieing about your top end speed, 1 down 2 up is the basic set up,and a good one.my boy has an 03 636 and went 1 down 12 up,comes right up for stunts, but for normal street riding, forget it.
