Ok a few questions.
When reading the manual for the bike it says for break-in to keep it under 5k rpms for first 800km then under 6k rpms till 1000km. Did you guys follow this on your bikes? If not how did you break in yours? When letting your bikes warm up do you do as the manual says and let it warm for 2-3 min? thx in advanced! |

I would highly recommend sticking to the break-in period. I know it's tough not to rev that baby up to 11k, but it will be well worth it in the long run, like extending the life of your motor. The only problem I had is not being able to ride on the highway because going 70 mph is past 5k.

I was good about keeping to what is recommened for break-in, and rode it as much as I could.
I do let mine warm up while I get on my jacket, helmet, gloves and put on my tank bag etc...this is a good 3-5 minutes. I keep my bike garaged and its hot there in AZ so that helps in the warm up as well. Hope this helps!! ![]() |

I bought my bike used, so I just hope it was broken in correctly. I do make sure that the oil gets warmed up before I really get after it. but in the summertime I rarely even have to use the choke to get the bike started.

Okay, I'm kidding. You're fine. Just relax. Don't worry so much. I think respecting Kawasaki's recommendation during break in is important, but I really doubt that a little over will do much, if any harm. I think what will make a much bigger difference is getting good oil and changing it regularly. Curt

Ownwr's Manual says 4k till 800km(500mi) and 6k till 1600km(1000mi). This is the most importrant time for your bike. I did as the manual said. If you hit sometime a bit more no problemm but don't get used to it.

how much differance does it make letting your bike warm up before you ride?
i have a tendancy to stay in bed for too long and as such have to really burn to get to work in time, its only a 15mile ride (10mins). On a side note i have noticed that my fuel consumption has gone up big style, eg. my tank only got me 61miles last time :/ but i think this might be due to me riding at full throttle most of the time.

yeah, i thought something was up, its booked in to have the carbs looked at on the 26th. The tank before the 61mile one only got 81 out of it, i but it down to the fact that i dropped it a few days before hand thou, i think when i dropped it (minor drop, leaning on a roundabout, got my toes down, got my pegs down, got either the centrestand or the exhaust down and the rear tyre lifted off) that something must have been knocked in the carbs as the engine flooded and i couldnt get it to start for several minutes.
Past 16kMiles a few weeks ago i think

I can squeeze about 180 out of a tank of gas, but usually refuel after about 160. Slowly approaching 32k....

Everyone is talking about getting 160 to 180 miles on a tank, I'm lost now as I just put 518 miles on my bike this weekend, my last tank I had 161 miles on it and when I filled up it only took 2.86 gal, this does not sound right with what everyone else is getting on there 500.

2.86 gals :/ this means nothing to me, i know that over here £11 (ish) fills my tank and i guess petrol to be about 81p per litre that works out at about 13.5L to a tank (total guesstimates of course), and as i said before this would normally take me about 100miles. (i ride the bike hard, full throttle most of the time)

Well, the manual says the tank is 4.8 gal, so 2.86 gal the tank was only a little over half empty.
