I started it up it has hesitation in the start up and when I tried to rev it, it would rev but then took about a minute to come down from 5k rpms. It had old gas in it the guy said. We adjusted the idle to it's lowest setting and after we would rev it the rpms would stick for a min and then drop back down to 1.5k. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. This bike is a 1999 zx6r by the way

I'd pull the carbs and give them a good clean.
Make sure your throttle cable is properly adjusted and not sticking.
