Exclamation reserve?

well i was riding the whole afternoon no problems bike worked great but
of course i had to be an idiot and forgot to put gas then i remember hey use the reserve

so bike started again but, was choking the whole time. i had to ride in the center line for about 1/2 mile until i got to a gas station,

question, why the frigging reserve didnt work properly?

engine was runnin but everytime i let of the clutch on first it was like chocking not enough gas

of course i filled with about 3.6 gallons switched to on and bingo ride again

wonder why reserve gave me troubles

pls ppl gimme some info so i can work on it tomorrow

thanks "PESTER THE MOLESTER"

Were you on reserve or prime? Easy mistake to make.

Just make sure you remember to put it back to the main tank, otherwise, you'll be out of gas and without a paddle.

Hopefully it's not some rust or something like that that got into the fuel line or carb or something and caused problems. Did it straighten out when you put gas in it?

Your petcock has two fuel intakes pointing up into the tank (tubes). One is shorter then the other, the shorter one of course being your reserve which will allow you to use gas thats below the longer intakes level. I've seen both intakes with small filters on the tips and without. What could have happened is something is partially blocking the reserve intake in the tank or the petcock. you would have to remove and check your petcock. Thats what makes sense to me. Below is a link that explains how your reserve works so you get a better idea of what I'm talking about.

I always knew the basics of how it worked...but for some crazy reason I always pictured in my head the tubes came from the top of the tank so that reserve was longer...guess that doesnt really make much sence due to where the engine is located lol. Thanks for the link, very nice site.

on an older bike that would be the reason, if it was newer it may be blockage in the fuel tap.

all gas is in the same tank, there is no OLD gas/NEW gas.
from the sounds of it like cuda said you have a blockage of the res. tube (or the little filter is crushed) pull the petcok and make sure the tubes are clean/clear. the little filters will come off but BE SUPER CAREFUL YOU DONT CRUCH/RIP THEM, you can clean them out from the INSIDE OUT.
