Default Brake Fluid make Fairings brittle?? :-(

Does brake fluid (DOT 4) make plastic brittle? I guess I learned the hard way.

I changed out the brake fluid today and while pumping air out the master cylinder, a bunch of fluid splashed out.

Then the fairing cracked and a piece broke off where the fluid was!
    I'll get a pic soon.

Hopefully I can get it plastic welded or something.

Don't get it on the paint! It may as well be paint stripper. If you do, wipe it off as soon as you can, maybe use some WD 40 to get it all off (then clean that off too).

Funny thing. It didn't harm the paint at all.

Extremely odd that it didn't if it was on the paint for any amount of time. Brake fluid is extremely corrosive and can wreck paint/parts.

yes you have to be very careful what you get brake fluid on, it will eat through a lot of stuff pretty quickly

That sucks buddy, sorry to hear that happened. Dot 3 or 4 will eat paint and plastic. I recently changed mine, first time I've done it and posted a thread a few days ago with a short how-to mentioning that fliuid can spill out the resevior.

    Here's the pic.

Hopefully it won't be too bad to fix.

OMG!!! Brake fluid cna mess up paint huge! The only reason I got a new exhaust was that I spilled some on my header pipe and it ruined the black finish on it.
