Default I just bought this bike, some problems (93 ninja)

Ok so i just bought this 1993 ninja 600. I picked it up REAL cheap. He said he recently rebuilt the engine and it has a wicked exhaust on it.
But there are a few problems.
WHat i have encountered so far is this:
1. THe charging system is clearly not working. i believe it may be the rectifier, as i have already tested the stator. The wire harness looks burnt up that connects the regulator to the stator. What would make that happen? Any ideas why it might not work and how to get a cheap regulator

2. The headlight, and the lights in the "dashboard area" (excluding the speedometer) were not working.
ANy ideas? Is there a relay. I will check my repair manual tonight on the relays and stuff. But if you have any other ideas let me know

So there are definetely some electrical things with this bike. IF you have any ideas on what it might be please let me know, as i need to fix this bike fast so i can get on the road again. This ninja rocks!

Sounds like a grounded power wire that runs the lighting system is what fried the rectifier. Start from the head and dash lights and work your way back. Could have happened when the rebuilt engine was installed, look for a crimped wire.

Does this mean that i shouldn't install a new rectifier first? Will it burn out the next one also?

I'd check it out first. Electrical problems don't just go away. Electrical components don't just burn out for no reason.......

fix the problem before you replace parts. electrical problems show up because something is not working as it should be, or is hooked up wrong. check for crimped wires, splices, and the like, the lighting issue probably caused the melted wiring issue. fix it first, BEFORE a new rectifier, or it'll just do it again and again. theres no sense in doing that now is there?

i couldn't find any grounded out wires? I believe i may have found the problem. HE mentioned that he had neon's hooked up on it all over the place. maybe that wore it out faster. I also found a bare wire (which i believe goes to some sort of power for the neon's) that was just bare and hanging out inside of the frame. So i taped that off so it doens't it anything and cause a short. So i beleive that may have been the sorce of my problems. But i will let you know, cause i am getting the regulator tommorrow

well, replace those melted wires too, or it'll just screw it up again. an uncovered wire thats just hangin out on the frame can generally cause this kind of issue I think. at least it'll do some damage to things. btw, neons on a bike are dumb.

your problem invoves 2 clear things

Rectifier
and or
Generator

and for the panel lights check fuses..
for me ur generator its bad circuit.. that causes amages in lighst , recifier.. for that reason no charge..
let me know how it goes.

ps: First of all check ur battery its well conditions.. thats main reason to damage rectifiers.
