hello all just wondering what the top speed for my bike should be??????
83 Z250..... last night after work (2am) i got 130km and a straight and pretty close to 140km and a slight down hill is this right ..... also im never gonna ask how to wheelie again talk about contraversy??????? ah yes and also cant seem to get much lean on the bike ... is it because ofthe tiny front tyre which isnt even three inches wide.... or my riding skill....probably the latter of the two..... thanks guys

yes I would say the latter... just dont be afraid to turn (slowly) those handle bars!
The bikes with the bigger tires are harder to turn... get on your motorcycle and then get off and get on a bicycle.. the bicycle will turn much quicker..

skill is a major part of why you cant get much lean on your bike. at times I've had mine pretty far sideways, almost to the knee dragging point, its very fun, but its ALL about practice in twisty roads. for me, I try once a day on the way home from school to take a specific twisty road as fast/safely as I can, and find myself leaning more and going a little quicker each time.

lynchy What bike do you have?
I remember being confortable scraping the peg feelers of my ex500... I used that to tell me when it was enough.. now I dont have them so I am still trying to get down there.. but It seems that I am going fast enough... for now

Yeah, it's a 250, I think ~85MPH (just under 140Km/H) sounds about right. I've never owned one though, so I guess I can't be too sure. The z is the more cruiser/touring style right? Or standard I guess. Maybe the newer ninjas can get a little better due to the aerodynaics and the fairings?
As for turning, as was stated already, your smaller tires actually turn quicker than larger tires. Your bike probably has a much lazier rake to it though, which means it'll be more stable but harder to turn. Newer bikes have such an extremely low rake that even with their wider tires they usually require a steering damper because they're so unstable at higher speeds. Unstable and nimble kind of go hand in hand. Anyway, so regardless of how hard it is to turn the steering and change leaning that shouldn't affect max lean. And your top speed seems more than enough to get into troubles in a tight turn and to keep your momentum up while leaned. I'd say keep practicing. Maybe if you're worried about leaning too far, you can try hanging off the bike a bit into the turn, which would allow for a slightly faster speed with less lean (because you shifted your center of gravity). Then you can go back to normal sitting but further lean when you're used to the higher speed in the corners? I can't suggest much, my bike is garbage and I've had very little riding this season |

If you start draging hard parts. this normally mean your lean angle is far enough and you now need to start getting off the bike a bit more. You do want to lean it far but you also want maximum contact of tire to road surface... as much as possible. The More contact you have the more you can get on it. I have ridden mid-ohio race track and the streets with less lean angle and have gone the same speed/times. " My bike was'nt angled/leaned as much but my body position was."
Also draging hard parts could mean you need different rearset or if you can adjust it so its a litle bit higher/or farther back that would be good. |
