Sweet looking bike X E, can't wait to see the write up on the mods list. This is my first small bike so not really sure what the possiblities are with modding it.

Is that merely for a better ride or is it to give it a nicer stance as well? I only weigh 145lbs so pretty much every bike is a little rough for me.

It gives better rebound damping and it's adjustable whereas the stocker on the 250 is not.

Smile All about "Jiminy", my 2006 Ninja 250R

Here is the lowdown on my Ninja 250R that X E Ryder has modded for me. Lucky for me, we live in the same town so I get to pick his brain about cornering, and he helped me turn my 250 into an even more capable bike!

I call my 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 250 "Jiminy", yes you guessed it, but like the crickets around here, he is very black! He does have a list of modifications that is quite extensive. I will mention that the chopped off Muzzy exhaust is the reason for his apparently constant need to make himself heard!

Here is what has been done so far:
    • Keihin velocity stacks
    • Custom chopped airbox
    • Keihin CR-S roundslide racing carbs
    • Muzzy 2 --> 1 exhaust w/chopped can
    • 13t Front sprocket
    • Front end lowered
    • Woodcraft Clip-Ons
    • Custom CNC bar end weights
    • Double Bubble windscreen
    • ProGrips
    • Polished stock wheel hoops
    • Pirelli Sport Demon tires
    • Polished grab bar
    • Custom white LED lighting in tail side lights
    • Chopped rear fender
    • Integrated front signals
    • Short rear signals

I thought it was a good bike to start with, and it got along quite well once I was willing to punch gears at 12,000 rpm or more, but I soon was looking for a little more power. Also, I wanted the seat a little lower to ease those off-camber u-turns or parking jobs.

Luckily I know someone who has forgotten more about modding bikes than some know, and I turned X E Ryder loose on Jiminy and was shocked at the difference! It rides like a different motorcycle now, like a Ninja 250 with a job to do, and the attitude to do it!

I love your bike Regalia, my 250 was a cheap bike I bought to help a friend out. But I would love to make it even more fun to ride. I'm an experianced rider used to ridding 750's/1000's but if I could make my 250 look and perform the way your's does, I'd be a happy camper.

If you don't mind me asking, about how much did it cost to turn the stocker into the beautiful two wheel master piece?

    Thank you!

I don't mind you asking at all! It cost around $1,300 in parts for all the modifications. The rest is elbow grease and oh yeah...Ouzo...lol! Have you ever heard of Ouzo? It is a Greek liquor that taste like Licorice, XE loves the stuff! I offer Ouzo to ease the bruised knuckles. Frankly, I think it tastes like medicine..

The enjoyment I get out of my Ninja is easily worth $4,300 ($2,999 + $1,300)..I've easily spent more than that for things like taxes, utilities and rent and I can't say that those are more fun that my little Ninja!

Ouzo is a good bargaining chip from my point of view.

I was impressed with that extensive list of mods when you originally told me about them Regalia! I think modding a bike is THE way to make it your own- your bike is now completely suited to you and your riding style!

Not sure what mods I will do on my 250, if I do any. I'm hoping to only have the bike for a year or two... but I think investing in new tires would be worth it for sure. But, more than that, I have to admit I would not have a clue HOW to actually replace parts (yup, I'm that type of lady that has never gotten her hands in grease!). I'm worried that I would screw something up
Great post X E... there are a lot of us 250 owners out there who can greatly benefit from mods.

Unless you are 200lbs or more, you dont need the ex500 shock. If you have passengers all the time, it will help. You can also put in a ZX600 and a SV650 ( http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Rear_end_upgrades ) rear shock, but is not a direct bolt on like the ex500 is.

Here's is a great FAQ on the 250 on about everything you can do with it.

Thats the most fun part of owning a vehicle/motorcycle. Do the work you self. Ever since I've had my samurai (15), I've fix, rebuilt, modded about everything on her. Heck I'm about to weld on a suspension lift and I've never done something like this. I can tear thru my transmission in 1 minute and take the whole engine about in about 25.

Did my rear blinker mod in 10 minutes. The 250 is the simpliest thing to mod.

Take a wack at it, you screw something up. Who cares, fix it and go on to the next thing.

Regalia... looks like you left of mention of your grips? Looks like Pro-Grip 719's... which is the only mod I've made to my bike. Big improvement over the stockers though.

I would have to agree, that is a small investment for big fun. I really wouldn't mind putting 1300 into my bike since I only paid 500 for her.

That's a sweet pic, looks like me on my way to work. Although I really need a new set of tires and a new suit. I'm getting awfully close to putting my knee down on that thing already, it's so much eaiser to throw around than my old 600 or 750. I will have to post a picture of my rear skin so you can tell me what I should work on. (that is if you would not mind).

Well my wife refuses to ride on the back with me, so it is always just me on my bike. I do ride aggressive though and the roads around here suck pretty bad. Like I said in other posts this is my first small bike, even as a motorcycle tech I never got to work or play with these little bikes. So I'm not really sure if stuff that works on the big bikes will give the same affect on the 250. Thanks for the links though, I will be looking into that as my riding season is just about over.

If you havent ridden the 250 for long, I'd wait on the suspension upgrades and get used to it first. You should have already noticed the spongy front end (dives when braking). That can be fixed by installing ex500 front springs. The rear as already stated, can have a shock change.

Just get used to it like it is. I've put over 3,000 miles on mine and still dont take corners hard (still got stock tires) and I'm still working out the braking thing. I have to remember road I travel on where, when, and how to brake.

The biggest thing you can do to any stock 250 is get rid of those crappy stock tires. Kawasaki did a real good job on going cheap there.

    Scott,
Thanks for the advice on the shock and brakes. I noticed the brakes really stink compared to the bigger bikes. I have about 1000 miles on the 250 so far, it's a fun little bike.

If you want some advice to help with your cornering, break before the turn and start your lean. Slide forward and into the turn using your your inside foot to help guide you around the turn. Also if you counter steer it will greatly help your control (line) through the turn, which will also help you carry your speed better.

And you are 100% correct about the stock tires, they suck badly.

You're right! I modified my post to reflect that mod as well! I really like them
