My '97 doesn't have that system on it. Should be the same size forks. Just look for parts off a newer bike.

I forget, is that the odd little device located on the front forks? If so, it's just an anti-dive system. If that's not it, then nevermind.....

ah ha, stupid me didnt search before i replied, but ya.

escs = anti dive. It has three settings. 1 being the softest. 3 stiffest.
electronic stability control system.
neato. mine seems to be in good working order.
i can tell because when the bike is off, the front suspension is very soft. It's also pretty soft when just sitting idling. When i pull the front brake and press, however, the fork is stiff as hell.

I've read of these systems failing over time, seizing up while activated and making the front end into a pogo stick....... As I mentioned before the forks off any newer model (89+) 600R should fit, as they are essentially the same bike. Though I've also read about people using CBR or Gixxer forks and triples as an upgrade.......

ESCS = Electronic SUSPENSION Control System

I know that the old manual ones from 85-87 were known to seize, causing the fork to be permanently stiff, but I've never heard of the electronic ones doing that. When my electronic one failed, it just meant I didn't have the anti-dive function anymore - just like the newer bikes that weren't equipped with it. Without the functioning anti-dive, the bike behaved the same under normal riding, and even worse under braking, although maybe new, stiffer springs and/or heavier oil would have been the solution for that. I don't know if the newer, non-anti-dive bikes have different springs than the old bikes.

How long was the electronic ESCS put on the 600Rs..... My '97 doesn't have it, so I'm assuming it was dropped a couple years after the manual version? I can't find info on this system anywhere.

The first generation Ninja 600R (from '85-'87, aka ZX600A) had the mechanical setup. For '88, the then new ZX600C got an electronic one along with a myriad of other updates. I don't know offhand when exactly the anti-dive was dropped, but it was definitely after the ZX-6 took its thrown as Kawasaki's premier 600. If I had to guess, I'd say somewhere around '93, but don't quote me on that.
