    Default question about 02 636

Im looking at getting a second bike and i was considering an 02 636. there is a guy about thirty minutes from me with one for sale. is there anything on this bike in particular i need to look for when looking at one? Is there any specific problems with these bikes i should know about? Any advise you can give me would be great thanks.

It's a solid bike with a tried&true platform. Your best indicator of possible problems is the previous owner. Is he the original owner? How many miles on it? Does he have the maintenance recorded in a maintenance log (or at least have the receipts?)

If he has multiple facial piercings, tattoos or thrash metal blasting in his garage, those are possible warning signs that he was not the most mechanically empathetic rider.

If he's at least one toddler playing in the driveway while you're looking at the bike, he's less likely to have ridden sustained 100-mph wheelies on the freeway.

Bikes today are wonderful things and they can endure a lot of abuse and still keep performing with gusto, but some folks seem to enjoy testing a bike's abusability. (And I really don't understand these stuntahs who finish their stale routines by throwing the bike down and standing on top of it; one of these days the machines will grow tired of such abuse and rise up against us.

Sorry bike is an 03. I have read the above link before it is very helpful. he is asking 4300 with 6300 miles. I decided not to pick it up but i think my friend is gonna buy it. It will be his first bike. After looking it over it seemed to be in great shape the cuy who owned it seemed like a straight up "good ol boy". This was my first expiernce with this model of bike and i have to say i was not overly impressed. I thought the ride position was comfortable and the handling was average to good. But the biggest problem with the bike was its lack of torque all the way threw the powerband. I currently own an r6 (which i wouldnt trade for the world) and it lacks low end bad but screams up top. I found no such "scream" in the kawi anywhere. i did like the handling and it would make a good around town bike(which is what im looking for) but it just didnt do it for me.

WOW that is a killer price. I had the 2003 636 and it was killer...Engine wise for that year it smoked all the bikes...Even the CBR I have now which is the same model year - 2003. It did not win the shootout for that year...It was between the CBR and R6 but it won the track portion and engine portion. That bike has power like you wouldn't believe and I can run down some 1000s if need be. You have to be in the right gear to get the most of that bike which is one of the issues that killed it for street riding. However, the R6 is a nice bike as well. My friend who tried my bike liked the 636 but actually hated the riding position which was more aggressive and high he said...He had a R6 Champ. Edtn. Tell your friend to get that bike...It is a steal at that price if it is clean and free of any issues. It was my first bike and I loved it very much. Handling is quick but a damper is a must. Good luck!

I agree that the bike has power i dont want to down play that. And i havent ridden the year model of your friends r6 but i felt like my 06 had more were it counts. ridding a 600 my self i know about having to be in the right gear. My bike doesnt pull hard to around 10k. I also agree on the damper it felt very twichy going into lean. My bubby is picking the bike up today! i am very excited for him. I would not bash the bike at all i think its a great bike but after riding a sv650 i think i was just expecting more torque than i felt it was giving me.
