Hi All,
I'm new to the site (about 5 mins ago). I live in Scotland UK and joined in order to try and help out others that were in my position. I ride a ZX6R F model, you know, the one with the header pipes that may as well be made of butter they rust so badly. Well, i searched and searched for a set of pipes at a price that wasn't going to break my bank balance but they all seemed to cost a small fortune here in UK (i think all the suppliers know that it is almost impossible to find a decent used set). After phoning many breakers yards i realised that i had been told a couple of times that G model pipes would fit with a little modification. I tried searching the net to find out if anybody had done this with any success but returned absolutely no results whatsoever. After a long hard decision, i decided to give it a go since G model pipes were available on 'that' auction site for a fraction of the price of those specific to my bike and they are made of stainless steel instead of the mild steel used on the F model. I also (took a risk and) decided on a scorpion end can for my bike from a J model, since i knew that the size of the can where it fits the pipe on an F model is different to the G model, but G and J models were the same. Anyway to the point, i have now fitted the pipes and can to my bike and am more than happy with the results. The can needed a little bit of tender stroking (that's what i call it, others may call it brute force and ignorance) in order to get it to fit. I also had to re-mount my exhaust hanger/pillion footpeg on the INSIDE of the frame instead of the outside, since the G pipes lift the can to an awkward position, but the whole process of fitting pipes and can took around 2 hours to do from start to finish with that being the only problem (and a little one at that). Having said that, i'd had the pipes off recently which made the job a whole lot easier since removing the studs that go into the cylinder head was a nightmare of a job (1 snapped and the other 7 took a lot of heat and a lot of care to remove), but that's another story. Anyway, sorry if i've droned on in the wrong section of the forum but i wanted there to be some info on the net for others to find before they consider attempting this fix, just to let you know, IT DOES WORK, i've done it with no major problem. Thanx for reading my ramblings Zen. |
