I just bought a brand new 2007 Ninja ZX10 and after 1 day of riding, got a nail in the back tire. I took it back to the dealership, knowing it was not covered and should not be patched. I ordered the tire and a few days later, picked up the bike and rode it home. After noticing it felt completely different, I saw they put the wrong size tire on it (190/50ZR17 instead of the 190/55ZR17). I called the dealership back and they argued and complained and said the tire was only a few millimeters shorter and I would never notice, etc.
I am still in dispute with the dealership, but lesson learned. If you ever get anything done to your bike, be sure to look at it closely when you pick it up! |

they saved you a lot of money. the OEM tire is very expensive. they should have talked with you before ordering the tire to be sure what you wanted.
BTW: I would have put a plug patch in that thing and ran it till the cords were showing. |

That's messed up. A smaller sidewall can make a hell of a difference, in feel and in speed. However minute, it should be corrected. How did you pay for this tire? If you used a credit card I would return the tire and demand your money back. If they refuse, leave the tire, and get ahold of your credit card company and arrange a charge back.
You payed for a 190/55R17, and you didn't get it. "Close enough" is NOT acceptable when it comes to my money, I imagine you feel the same way. |

If the bike had more than 150 miles on it, I may have considered putting a patch on it, but it was brand new. I used a credit card, so if we don't come to a resolution, they will find the tire sitting on their doorstep with a disputed bill.
Anyway, just wanted to vent and let others know to check thoroughly after getting any work done and to let you know you can absolutely feel a huge difference in the two size tires! |

I would not repair a front tire either. I would rather deal with a rear tire that is slowly going flat than a front if it was happening. |

if you check the ZX10 forums the availability of these tires in OEM size is none available. I haven't checked for a while but believe that is still the way it is.
there is a way to shim the rear to accommodate for the different tire size. |

Whatever people are saying here "only a few mm, doesn't matter for street riding" etc that's bull. Kawasaki engineered this bike with quite a few changes in geometry from the '05 model. Some of these things actually caused slower turn-in and this was compensated by the steeper profile on the tire. It does make a difference. The fact that the dealer just decided to stick whatever they could get on there is not right and you should tell them right away they have two options: Replace the tire at no cost (unless you only paid for a 50, then you should (maybe) pay for the difference in cost to the 55) or face a disputed charge which they are guaranteed to lose (you never got the product you ordered and never accepted a substitute).
Problem is after you get this resolved you should probably find a different place to get service and any warranty work done or they'll find a way to make up their losses later.

I thought 190/50 was standard size? the 55 seems odd. However, if that is not what you wanted, you should get satisfaction. That is your right since that is what you paid for.

I'm sorry, I can't agree with much of that article. the 04 handled better than the 06 does. |
