Default Speedo calibration.

I've noticed that my zzr600 speedo is off quite a bit, seems to be reading about 10mph high or so. In regular freeway traffic i'll be flowing with the cages and my speedo will read 85-90, I find it hard to believe that grandma would be driving her 79 Cadi at those speeds.

Can I have it calibrated?

Oh and how exactly is the mph figured out by the speedo on this bike?

You should be able to find a speedometer shop in the yellow pages.

you can't really feel the speed! well thats at least part of it...

If you are riding on 280, 101 what makes you think people are not doing 80?

I do think it is off but not by 10 mph!

I'm talking 280 or 87 through downtown San Jose. The speed limit on 87 is 55.

I was going to go find one of those police radar trailer things but now that have my plate messing with one of them doesn't seem like such a good idea.

I agree with you on not feeling the speed though, I rode highway 1 from 84 down to 17 on Saturday and frequently saw speedo readings of 100 (90???) when i thought i was going 70 or so.

Members here have measured their speedos against GPS and have found errors but they've been well under 10%. That means that at 80 mph they weren't off by 8 miles so I think that that granny was going 79 mph. Hard to believe, huh? I'm only on a 500R and I can't believe that I'm 80 when I'm trying to get to the HOV lane when I get on the freeway. Bikes have this ability to distort our perception of speed: making us think we're going fast when we're not (because of the wind) and then making us think that we're going slower than we are (after a certain point, relativity just seems to stop).

Were you planning on stealing the trailer? Seriously though, the trailer does not take pictures so not to worry, but you could have someone pace you in a car and when they hold a steady 60mph then note your speed. Once you have both speeds, figure the percentage, then use a speedohealer to correct the error. A speedohealer will cost about $100
