Ninja 250 & Ninja 500 Power:Weight

alright everyone, I've rallied up some specifications on the 250 and 500 Ninjas. Now before I get started I know theres going to be some stipulation in these #'s. They arent bang on, for obvious reasons, lets just take them for face value.

Ninja 250

Consider also that you can knock off another 25lbs on the 500R, full exhaust is with carbon fiber can is extremely light, especially compared to the factory one. My bike is quite a bit lighter than stock, its noticeable in the twisties as well as in off the line acceleration.

Not bad for a NINJA...either one of them. Not to cause any ruffled feathers now, but get rid of the Heavy exhaust and centerstand on the NINJA 250R...usually a lighter rider...just KIDDING. I think that your numbers point out that for something half the size only in engine shows that Perhaps the Little NINJA is a fighting little machine WORTHY of being a NINJA. Personally, I would change the gearing on the NINJA 250R so that it would get to MAX 14,000RPM a little sooner and decrease the numbers for 1/4 mile and get a better top end. Now take it to the extremes and put a 1200 against the 250 in a extremely tight and twisty, no straights just curves...I'd say that the 1200 would stand an even chance IF you could keep it only on the rear tire alone...NOT!!! Most of us know that IF you don't use the top end you can get more usage of power by changing the gears. Do th changing of gears and lose all the nonessentials (steel exhaust and centerstand to start with) then you gain a slight advantage on the rest of the crowd. even if they are all NINJA 250R's stock you have the advantage... Thanks for running the numbers though. seems the Mighty NINJA by comparison may be 500R but given the motor is twice the size...hmmm.

Yah like I was saying, these are stock #'s. There is so much you could do to improve these #'s dramatically, just by having a different exhaust alone. Coming off of the assembly line, thats what they are. Imagine a cabon Fibre everything..... *drool*

I've always been impressed that my Ninja 250's engine is exactly one sixteenth the size of my LS400, but the Ninja could take the Lexus in a quarter mile.

I really need to check my Ninja's gas mileage again after the snow melts. I bought the bike in the middle of last summer, and I only calculated the gas mileage once, but it was 39mpg. I was expecting a lot more. Maybe we'll get a new thread going on gas mileage once the weather warms up.

Where did you get the 55-75mpg figure?

I got the 55-75mpg fig from a random website. All of the other stats on the bike i.e. brakes, engine, weight etc, were correct. I could only think of one way its so high and that is it might have been run on a Dyno. We're talking about a variance of 20mpg, which seems a little high.

You know Im REALLY stuck between getting a 250 or a 500 (I know its off topic) I saw a 250 in MINT condition @ my local bike shop for $1300. But Im 6'1'' and 215lbs so Im afraid it would be a bit wee small for a chap like me. But the price is really nice...... Im all shook up about this.... Freakinout and Triplesecman both suggested the 500, but Im still stuck...

Before I bought my Ninja 250, I also remember finding a web site where a pack of Ninja 250 riders were in the mountains. (Was it perhaps Shenandoah or maybe southern Appalacians?) And I thought I remembered them mentioning around 65mpg. That's why I was surprised that mine was so low. But I realize that I only checked it once.

I paid well over $2,000 for mine in mint condition, so $1,300 sounds like a great price to me. But you have to pick a bike first before you even look at prices. The price doesn't matter. The bike does.

paid 1 grand for my 94 ninja 500. w/ a few race mods on it. still 1300 in mint condition isnt to bad.. considering they are 3 grand new.

You might be over-thinking this. Get the 250, ride the crap out of it, learn on it and then sell it and get the 500.

Couldn't someone do some minor upgrades to get to 13's? I would rather do that then upgrade to a 500
