Default 2002 Zx7r [longevity

Hi guys, I was just reading through this forum & found a lot of helpful tips, etc.

My question is, what is the life expectancy of a 2002 zx7r? I just purchased one w/ 19k miles that still runs decent, but I am wondering if it is something I should just turn around and sell, or that I can have some fun with for a while.

Also, I paid $1900 for it... it had a bad ignition switch, missing windscreen, and cracked upper fairing, although from a distance it still looks decent. Do you think I got hosed, or is this a fair price? A little late to be asking, of course, but I can still back out although it would be a PIA.

i have seen several bikes with 75k+ miles.. a zx9r and a sv1000 were the ones i remember off the top of my head.. the 9 needed a rebuild at 60k..

so yeah, you can still ride it for a while if you take care of it..

I'd say you did pretty well, My old 84' FJ600 had 30,000 on it when I bought it and I put about another 8000 on it before I sold it. It was still running fine the day I let it go.

I think the reason you don't see to many high mileage bikes is because they tend to get totaled out by insurance companies when they are dropped if they are more than 4 years old(Fairings are expensive).

Lol, that's a good point about being totalled out. Fortunately, I only need an upper fairing *if* I am that concerned with looks, although I suspect I will just leave it as is unless I decide to sell it later.

I got my 95 zx6r with 16000 miles on it and it needs new everything fairngs a carb rebuild and mirrors for 1500 so 19 for a zx7 that just needs fairings and has 4000 miles more sounds just as sweet a deal to me

Yeah, you do win.

But a 2002 ZX7 for 1900 is still nice. I got mine for 1900 too, but mine is a 93, although it didn't need any work done.

2002 ZX7R should last you for quite a long time assuming you take care of it. I don't understand why people think bikes can't take high mileage....or why people tend to think that 15,000 miles is high mileage for a bike?

just ran across this post and thought I'd add to it. I put over 75k (without a rebuild) on an '82 GPZ1100, my '85 GS700E has over 30k (aquired in Nov of '06 with 17k) , and a buddy of mine has a honest to God 87k on his '02 ZX-6R we live in Georgia and do not drive cars unless it is absolutely unaviodable. I just got an '02 ZX-7R the weekend after July 4th it only had 1881 miles on it as of today it has 2643 miles

Bikes will run as long as sports cars IF YOU TAKE CARE OF THEM. If you abuse it and shoot it to the moon at every stop light... dont expect more than 25k before a rebuild.

I got 41,000 on my 636 right now and I still run the stock clutch and valves are still within spec from the factory. I would just watch the valve adjustment period on the older bikes but other then that put some good oil in it and just take care of it. I also run Mobil 1 15-50 car oil in the bike without any problems since its not energy conserving.

i bought a 1991 kawa ninja zx-1100 from the dodge dealership i work at for $1000 that included tax tag and title. bike was in perfect condition, all orginal with just over 20,000 miles. purred like a kitten. Not a scratch on the paint. only bad thing about it was the paint on the front rim is starting to flake off. When i got it i sent it straight to the shop for a complete ground-up overhaul. Re jetted the carbs (stage 3) put a big bore kit on it with oversized valves and roller rockers and put all forged parts back in the engine. rebuilt tranny and replaced sprockets with stock and put new seals in the front forks. needed no brake work. spent way more than what the bike was worth but i did it because i just thought the factory top speed of 175 wasnt fast enough. The bike was black and pink so i put it in the body shop at the dealership i work for and painted it black with blue spill lines on. looks like i ran the bike into blue paint and it ran down the side. put about 3000 miles on it since then and had no problem and i am very happen. the bike is very strong looking for a newer bike real soon so it will be for sell soon

yea a zx7r is 448 dry , and around 500 fully lubed. If you have a 01 zx-6r is significantley lighter , i believe they are 380 pounds or so dry , if you have the e model , those are around 430-435 or so dry
