Default Headlight blowing fuses

I am sure this is a really dumb question, but I am hoping you guys can help me with some quick troubleshooting...

My newly acquired 2002 zx7r is blowing the fuse in the headlight. It blows instantly on high beam, and intermittently on low beam...

So my [very lame] question is, does the fact that one is intermittent and the other definite mean anything as far as diagnosis goes?

Thanks!!!

+1 and then follow the wiring up to the light--it's shorting somewhere. The intermittency (is that a word?) means that the short is probably from something that is loose that randomly grounds out. My guess is that you'll probably find some frayed wiring that is exposed.

Check the bakelite connector that goes on the back of the headlight. They usually have three wires (HI, LOW, GND). If there is a current path to the ground line, it will blow fuses.

ALSO: make sure the correct fuse is installed (probably a 10A) and make sure it's the right headlight for the bike. If it is some funky, super bright off-road light it may be pulling too much current for the fuse.

Second checking the headlamp type... something that runs at 100+ watts doubles the current essentially from stock. That would be my guess from the observation of it blowing the fuse on high every single time as opposed to some of the time on the low beam.
