    Default cracked frame!!!

hey everyone. i just picked up a 93 zx-6d from a friend at work. it's a bit of a project but, because of the reasonable price i thought it was practical. recently it has been hard to start, flooding, the usual... so i decided to go through it a bit for some peace of mind, reliability, and safety wise... suddenly my driveability problems were shot out of the water when i spotted these cracks... before i got this bike i did a little research and thought i read a little something on a recall that relates to the swing arms, but definitely nothing like this... so guys. is this bike junk or what?

Looks like you're gonna have to take it all the way to the frame and have it re-welded.

Just needs some duct-take. Fix it right up and you'll be back on the road in no time.

I don't think it is a matter of how much it will cost. I suspect that will be the cheap part. The killer is going to be stripping the bike down so you can take that frame in to be welded and then putting it all back together.

Might be more profitable to e-bay all the parts and then buy a bike w/o a cracked frame.

That sucks man. Due to the location and the fact that the pieces haven't completely seperated, I wouldn't hesitate to trust a bike that has had repair in this area. However, I also agree with the previous post. This will be a very time consuming repair to do it right. Yeah, you could just have someone slap a weld on it as is and hope for the best, but to be done correctly it all needs to come apart.

Even if you have the time and money to spend I won't ride that bike. If you are willing to strip it and put it back together just try to find a frame on Flea-bay or some other place. If not part the bike out and make money. Go buy a new bike. I hope you didn't pay too much for it or did you?

i agreed to buy it from a friend at my work. the agreement was for 1k bucks. it has been sitting a long time and he just wanted the garage space. he said it was cool if i paid him in installments since he knew i had a job and saw him everyday. honestly i paid for some spark plugs, wires, oil change, and then a spare 40 bucks i had in my pocket at the time i brought it home. although there was no way he could have known about the cracks he agreed to take it back with no issues. at this point i'm thinking that's the route to take, and hopefully use what i learned in getting a different bike.... i definitely have some blue balls though. i rode the bike for all of 30 mins before some cranking and flooding problems started. i got my permit last monday and now i have to get rid of it so soon!
