While I lived in my home country Japan, motorcycle was my main transportation method. Of course we have cars there, but parking costs like NYC, and traffics jam up every where. I was riding everyday even in rain. I found out that ski gear is very effective for riding. As I posted earlier, I put ski pants over regular pants, and wear ski gloves under 40 degree + face mask. Oh yeah, everybody at my work thinks I am driving space shuttle to work. I still wanna ride...

ok....sport bike riders ARE wimps! All of us....I mean YOU are! nah...I was just thinking about it last night after I had logged off the puter. it occurred to me that it might be more about where we go riding. Often times, I notice that both sporties and cruisers tend to use their bikes to go to meet their buddies and maybe ride a little bit. My friend and I think nothing of doing 300 to 350 miles on a day up in the mountains. Not to mention riding to work. I just think our style is a bit different from the "norm" I see. |

It stopped raining here in Raleigh, NC. I ride to work to night definitely!! Oh, one thing you all need to be really careful. When temp on the surface of road is low, your tires don't grasp it very well. You'd better warm up you tire like GP riders do before you scrape you knee on curves, if traffic and your local police allows you. I told you, I come home from work 4am in the morning... who is watching.
Oh, in that way, you can wear your tires evenly... lol. Last edited by yas001 : 11-15-2007 at 02:55 PM. |

Join the club Wendy. I'm not there yet either. Been practicing for two years now, but there's not enough really good curvy roads close by that I've found. I tend to enjoy fast sweepers a lot more too. I did get pretty close in September when I was riding across the Cherahola Skyway by myself. Now that I've watched some of the videos some have posted here, I've got some ideas that I want to try out. I just need to find a good road without too much traffic so try them safely (as much as one can without a close place to do track days!)

Knee scraping on public traffic is crazy tho.
When I was younger, I taped Coke cans on my knees and was making spark from the can on neighborhood circle. But it was totally nuts...Contrarily, motorcycle police avoids touching their bodies even they lean deeper. It means knee scraping is not safe on public street, I think... |

If you want to safely practice getting your knee down.......go to a large empty parking lot and to 35-40 mph circles. You can do them easily and all day long. |

Me neither. The only time that I find a decently curved road, it's busy with traffic...so on some beautiful twisties...the traffic is going like...twenty...so it really blows. Oh well. I'm more of a cruising and enjoying the scenery type of rider.

Yeah, I've only found one road here in California that is fun to ride on...when there isn't any annoying traffic going super slow. My brother though still rides with all of his friends in NC. They go to Highpoint and Greensboro a lot. He was telling me soon that everyone of his friends and their girls will have their own bikes...except for his wife. lol.
