I will admit to being a wimp today. It is not the temp keeping me off the bike. It is the high winds.
Do I even qualify as a sport rider though? This damn Versys is hard to catagorize. The sport riders accept it as a nice bike even though it is not one and the cruisers seem to be pretty interested in it too. ![]() |

I guarantee the day I picked my zx12r I was the only bike on the road around here. It was early feb. and had snow about 8 inches the day before.
when I lived in agawam I never put my bikes away. since I moved to the hills I do when it starts snowing. but come spring when the afternoon temps get up to 50 I will ride my bike to work if its 32 F just so I can ride home when its 50. My meanstreak offers less protection from the wind so it get put away 1st. that and the salt up here kills chrome.

I think Long Island New yorkers have given up riding for the rest of the year :( i haven't seen a sportbike on the road since last monday except for a local test riding a new bike and a scooter >:( Hell usually there's 3 riders at work and even they put their bikes up

I think we're finally getting to the place where it's going to be too cold to ride for awhile. We'll likely get a few days here and there with decent weather, but those days are going to become fewer and further between. Right now its mid afternoon and only 40 degrees outside.
![]() MrsBennice just went back to work full-time, so I'm driving the kids to school in the AM anyway, so it looks like my commuting days will be limited to days when she's off or the kids are on break. Of course there's always the weekends, but evenings are too dark and cold by the time I'm done with work. A couple bad things I've found about riding a sport bike in weather that's too cold... 1.) When you're cold and numb your reaction time seems to decrease 2.) Sometimes vision is temporarily obscured by fogging visor or watery eyes 3.) Cold tires + cold pavement = bad things, man 4.) Cagers don't expect to see a motorcycle on the roads in colder weather, so the 'hit by a numbnut' risk multiplies

Now, here in Raleigh, NC, temp goes down 30's at night. I am working for 3rd shift and leave home about 6:30pm and come home about 4:00am. I am still riding, as long as it's not snowing. I have all season textile jacket and ski pants for below 50's. Nothing bothers me for 40 minuets ride.

When it's a nice day and I see people on their bikes and I am in my cage I miss my bike. So today I was wondering how many people in their cages were missing their bikes when they saw me riding past them.

I'll ride in 50+... in the 40's maybe. We had a warm day here bumping around 70, so I saw more sport bikes out than I usually see. It was a good day for a ride.
Sometimes I'll skip warm days in the winter if there is a bunch of sand and salt all over. I went down last year in some sand that followed some late snow.

Started riding with my bro in the middle of winter, so temp doesn't mean much to me. Problem I have is my work schedule, puts me past midnight for riding home...which is usually when all the frost and ice builds up on the roads. So I gotta really watch it when I decide to take the bike to work. Last time I had frost building up on my visor while on the way back. :/ Ice is very difficult to see through it seems, but hey it looks pretty when somebody is coming the other way and lights ya up with their headlights.
