I always wondered about that. The manual only specs a service pressure at high rpm, not idle. BTW, the "oil idiot lights" on cars and bikes generally trip somewhere around 10 psi so they aren't going to tell you in time.

im totaly new to 4cyl roadys, but im pretty clued on about most dirt bikes/6 & 8cyl car engines.
the real answer to your question is YES, you should always warm your bike up properly. its not just because of oil pressure or no oil in the top end like people have said, its coz when the engine heats up, all the metal in the engine (bearings, rings etc) expands to the size they are supposed to be. when its cold will mean some parts will have excessive movement in the internals, it can cause damage putting a cold engine under load often. |
