Question Question about Removing Decals on Ninja 250?

I'm interested in purchasing a 2006 or 2007 Ninja 250 cc. I was wondering if it's possible to remove the "flame" and "ninja" decals on the sides of the bike without damaging the paint job. Thanks for any information!

Heat gun or blow dryer, then use "goo gone" or afta to remove the residue, then a little polishing compound if necessary to remove any swirls or light scratches.

As far as I know they are not under the clearcoat but I am sure someone with one will chime in soon. Welcome to the forum.

Yup - that's the way to do it.

But if I remember correctly, there is one or two decals that ARE clearcoated over. I think it's the ones on the tank??? I dunno.

Someone tried it... I think the tank was cleared, the plastics were not, or the other way around. Either way, you're stuck with them unless you plan to re-clear.

the 'Kawasaki' decals on the tank should be the only ones on the bike at all that are clear'd

I'd leave them on. Better resale value. Unless you're going to paint or put your own decals on. When I see a bike without decals I assume it's been dropped and repainted.

Good point. If you're planning on keeping the bike for a good long while, then pull dem stickas! Mod it out to your own liking.

But, if you're thinkin to sell it soon, then KEEP IT STOCK.

It'll appeal to a bigger market.

Exactly. It's your bike, I dont mean to tell the OP what to do to it, but he might wish he'd kept them on if he's going to sell in a short time.

I did remove the nasty flame job on my wife's new 250R. Used a hair dryer, easily wiped off remaining glue with WD40 (won't hurt paint), and then waxed it. Looks way better. Kawasaki decals on the tank are under the clear.

I plan on keeping this bike forever and I'm ready to lose those flames! How difficult or expensive is it to have the tank re-cleared?

Not rattle can... it won't hold up on a tank.

Best bet is to take the tank to an auto body/paint shop and ask them to clear it. Shouldn't be much more than $100 or so, especially if they're cool and slip it into the booth while shooting a car.

I purchased my 2006 Ninja 500 without the decals. Previous owner was in his 50's and didn't like the "Comic Book Graphics". I agree with him that it does indeed look better without the graphics. It's also MORE visible when sideways to traffic imho. Here's what it looks like:

He stated that he removed the decals with a heat gun, but just took care to not make the plastic parts too hot. After it cooled off, he went thorough a couple of bottles of Goo Gone to tidy it all up.

I find that Plexus plastic spray works well on the Windscreen and plastic parts to keep them looking good. As long as you use small short bursts of spray and use a microfiber towel, it works great!

I used a blow dryer and some real patience, it's kind of a pain in the butt. I used alcohol to get rid of the extra sticky stuff. I didn't bother with the stripe on the tank of my bike, I simply painted over it. I just couldn't stand the colors of my stripes, I changed the colors, and altered the rear stripe a bit on mine.
