Default a traitor to my kind!!

since i've been filling everyone in on a few of the things i have been doing over the cold season.
i thought it would only be right to let you know that i have changed tire brands(for now),i mostly run continental brand tires...
and in no way will i say that i have found a superior tread.
haven't really had the chance to test them out.
i typically go for the LONG wear tires..i ride alot of miles in a season and i certainly don't want to buy 3 or 4 pairs in a season.

so for now i am giving the "Pirelli Diablo Stradas" a run for the money.
currently i have only put on about 300 miles on them(mostly commute) but here is what i have noticed so far.
1. they seem to be sticky for a "touring" tire right off from the get go. once they are warmed up a bit it is apparent that i can ride them as hard as i typically do.
2.the tip in is smoother on this tire.the continentals would tip in so hard that i had to battle them back from going too far until they were well worn in to my riding style.
3. hellacious amount of tread life just from the looks of them. deep cuts in the pattern that stretches all the way to the edge.
looks to be a good rain tire even though i have yet to have the chance to test that theory.

here is a downer side of the tires.

they just don't look near as "sexy" on the bike!!!
i know that is a bad example so i will show you what i mean...

here is an example of the conti's!!
rear!!

front

and here are the strada's....

rear!!

front!

i keep telling myself that at least the stradas look like dragon scales, but i know i am only fooling myself.

so all in all if you are the type of rider that does alot of miles in a season i will always say to go with the continental road attacks......at least until further notice...

One of our regulars swears by those tires. I might have to try a set if I decide to settle down in my riding style a little

I think both tires are good and give good mileage. Turn in on both tires is good for a ST tire IMO.

i'm liking them so far and if they last a good long time then i may stick with them.
possibly switch out mid-season for something a little more aggressive

Can't go wrong with Pirellis, Mike. If everything goes well with my bike, I will be getting a set for my dinosaur.

Oh sure, confuse the hell out of me now!

I ride all year so I'm looking forward to your final judgement on these tires. But even if you fall in love with these new tires (even with that "dorky" tread that you pointed out), I'm still gonna give the Conti Road Attacks a chance first when I swap out the OEM's...180/55's baby!

Hey Mayo,
They make your bike look like a Goldwing...........

j/k buddy, i think they look pretty cool actually. And besides, when your ripping it up no-one will be albe to see the tread pattern anyways.

as i said... i will most likely go back to them once i have a chance to try these and possibly something a little more agressive

Those tires may be fine for commute or for the long hall but i prefer to get max grip over tire longevity any day. Thats why im running Pilot Power 2CT's I have never felt comfortable on the harder compound tires pushing hard into a twisty especially with lower road temps. I would much rather spend the extra money and know my tires are going to hold my line.

i will agree with you there.
i have run the conti sport attacks and i know what you mean about better grip.
the thing is that you should never be running that hard on the street anyway.
i try to keep myself at a level pace and one that everyone is capable of handling.
many peeps with better tread have fallen behind me keeping my pace.

is it the tread or the rider????
