Default How is the Helment lock suppose to work?

I have my daughters helpment locked on the side of my bike and the back peg is out but the helment is flopping around at times. I feel like I am doing soemthing wrong, can someone post a pic of how the helment is suppose to look when it is locked in, or give me directions on how to secure that while I am riding? I have the lock going through the metal helment loops but the helment is still flopping around

I think the helmet locks are only for use when you are not riding. I would secure the helmet to the back of the bike with a bungee net, or put it in a tailbag that is big enough to hold it.

Yes.... helmet locks are for when you go somewhere and you dont want the helmet stolen. Not for riding time.

The best use of helmet locks is, if they're ugly take them off, if they don't detract from the looks of the bike just leave them alone, but whatever you do, don't leave your helmet on your bike.

What are bungee nets and and tail bags and will they work for the 500R?

+1 I don't care what helmet lock comes on the bike, they're useless because the best lock is only as good as the strap that the D-ring is attached to. If someone wants your $600 Shoei, it's only a pocket knife cut away; straps are probably less than $20 to replace. I have these cables under the rear seat on my bike that I can't figure out but I still won't use them even if I do find out how they're used.

Bungee nets are exactly what they sound like, a net made of bungee cords:

Cycle Gear - BIKEMASTER Stretch Bungee Cargo Net BLACK: Stretch Bungee Cargo Net, BLACK

Tail bags are the pieces of luggage that you can put on the back part of the seat:
Cycle Gear - CARGO Basics Tail Bag BLACK: Basics Tail Bag, BLACK

I love the bannana-type seat that the 500R has, it made for easy storage for stuff when I went on rides through the twisties. I was able to keep my home made motorcycle road-side repair kit, extra visor, water and other stuff in my cloth helmet bag under a bungee net. I don't have that on my Z1--I have to use a tank bag now.

So what is the best way to ride with a helment on board?

Helmet locks as said are for when you stop somewhere and feel the need to lock your helmet to your bike. I run a cable through my FF helmet chin guard, not through the straps or D ring. If you need to carry your daughters helmet when you ride, you need to strap it firmly somewhere and run a cable lock if you need to lock it up.

lilred answered that (which is where your question came from):

I forgot to mention that the 500R has those really cool bungee hooks that fold under the tail fairing. What a great idea, I wish I had something like that on the Z1--I have these two hooks but they don't do crap and then there's the issue of the tail fairing getting scratched from the cords anyway. Wait, I lost those useless hooks when I took the fender off...never mind.
