Exclamation Heads Up for '07 Z1000 Owners...

...so check out the picture below. Do you notice anything? If not, read on below the pic:

I took that pic to update my wallpaper because I installed the bar end mirrors this last weekend. If I wouldn't have taken it, I never would've noticed the two 5mm hex bolts missing from the left engine case (it's now a part of my morning walk around the bike that I do when it's warming up). I posted this pic in a Z1 forum and one guy said that he lost one bolt after only 300 miles! I just broke 2,300 miles on Monday when I took the pic.

I showed the parts guy at the shop that I bought the bike from and he was embarrassed and apologized that they didn't notice the loose/missing bolts especially when I took the bike in a month earlier to have them look for the cause of a rattle during acceleration when I had them install the SS brake lines for me. $80 for an hour's worth of work and they couldn't find anything--but in their defense, the bolts might've still been in the engine case at-that-time. I'll have to look at other pics from that time period (not that it matters to me at this point). They gave me two new bolts for free though!

I checked the remaining three bolts and two were loose--but were no where near falling off. Only one bolt was tight! Strangely enough though, the bolts on the right case were all fine.

Okay, run to the garage now and check your bike!

Get locktight...Not the permanent one of course. Just a drop goes a long way...Yeah bro...People who do not check their bikes daily are off the hook. I check my bike before and after...Remeber people...These are not cars. Bikes seem to shake way more bolts are easy to lose...I lost a fairing bolt on my 600rr but my 636 and this 10R have been bulletproof so far.

I'm going to pick up my '07 Z tonight! Your posts regarding it are super helpful, keeping me on my toes with various issues! I'll be sure to check these and throw some blue locktite on them.

Also, did you ever find little caps or something to cover the holes from the stock mirrors when you remove them? I thought it might look kinda ghetto to just put some screws in there

The mirrors rock! Wide angle, convex mirrors and no vibration. I wish I had them sooner. I hope that the novelty wears off soon because I've been slowing down on the freeway "admiring" the new view...I've gone as slow at 60 mph in the HOV lane!

A thread that I did back on Monday with pics:

Right on dude! Congratulations are definitely in order! Now we have to get fretbuzz to pull the trigger. You're gonna love that bike...yes, you can have butt-loads of power and still be comfortable. Now you have to join the Z1 forum and spend tons more on mods.

Glad to help out with what I've been finding on my Z1. Another thing to check is the hex bolt that holds the front brake resevoir--mine got loose at 600 miles. I noticed it a little before I dropped the bike off for the first service. But even with these few quirky things, I wouldn't give up the Z1 for anything.

I asked about the holes where the OEM mirrors go into this morning in the Z1 forum. I'll let you know that they suggest...and hopefully they'll give me the $.50 fix--not the $70 fix that they did out of love for the bike.

Thanks! It seemed like a super fun bike, then I test rode it and completely confirmed my thoughts. As far as comfort, the seating position definately beats the crap out of riding the ZX-10R! One thing I noticed on my short test ride was that the seat seems to slope forward and forces my ermm.. junk into the gas tank Might have to look at doing some seat mods for that.

But other than that, it was real comfortable with loads more torque down low and plenty power up top.

    I missed it. thanks!

I've been looking into getting extensions for my 650R, but these seem like a good option too.

Do you have any close up pics for me to get a better idea of how they installed? I found some online, but it looks like they completely replace the bar end. I like how yours has the bar end too.

Don't worry too much about sliding foward; you'll find the perfect spot on the seat. It's the spot on the seat that allows you to hang on to the bike with your legs because you'll be hanging on for dear life when you decide to twist the throttle a little. So you'll already be squeezing the tank for dear life if you decide to stop quickly too.

There are a couple of people who got the Corbin seat for the bike and they said that while it's a lot better comfort-wise, it's wider so it does affect your stance while sitting on the bike. You stance will widen enough to affect your foot placement; so if you're like me with a 30" inseam, your heels will be up a little instead of being on the ground.

I think that I'm going to get some of the blue Loctite soon; when I do, I'll take some pics of the bar ends off so that you can see how they're mounted.

The bar end mirrors work better than the stock ones; I'm not too sure what you meant by "curve". But if you meant while turning...I don't use the mirrors when turning; it took me a while to figure that one out too when I used to ride the 500R..."how do you deal with the mirrors moving with the bars?...". Did you get to read the thread that I linked to earlier in NCDave's post?

"Now we have to get fretbuzz to pull the trigger."

    If I can find one!

The local dealer just happen to call me today for a survey (I ordered a tinted shield from them) so I told her the only complaint I have is that I've been wanting to try on a Z1000 and they never have one. She said she'd work on it.

The Z1K keeps swapping #1 and #2 on the list with the S83 with a few other bikes sitting close on the list.

    Default loose bolts, mirrors

A couple of bikes I've bought new, both seemed to go through phases of everything tending to get loose for a while, then after a while needing an impact wrench to get them loose. It's not too surprising you might have to go around checking for loose stuff for a while, although the Zed is pretty smooth despite the engine being a stressed frame member.

The header bolts tend to regularly get loose on the '03, you might keep an eye on those too, not sure it's still a problem in the '07.

The mirror upgrade is a good idea. I find the stock mirrors to be pretty much useless for normal driving, and in the twisties I don't spend a lot of time looking at what's behind me.

    Sweet machine the '07 Zed

no i didnt can u send me the link pls.

I use the mirrors while turning, most times the curve is more about body position than the bar.
    thats why i asked.

I was looking at your bike before I read under your pic, and thought your mirrors looked ok, and wished I got a hugger when I had the money for one, then noticed 2 screws seemed to be missing at 10 and 2 on the engine cover. Are they, or are you missing different ones? Anyway, are those mirrors flat, not convexed? And where is this Z1K forum. Corbin now has a seat for the Z1K? This bike is a blast to ride, now I have to go look at mine, when I was looking at this bike before I got it, I noticed the brake reservoir was loose.
