Default Question - Pirelli Supercorsa Pros

A friend of mine told me that these tyres (the top of the line Pirelli road tyres), though they do provide awesome grip in the dry, need lots of work to warm up and get them up to temperature, and that they can be unpredictable if not at optimal operating temperature, i.e. either you're carving the twisties like a mofo or you're better off on something like Corsa IIIs.

Have any of you used these tyres? Feedback?

I ask as, since my idea is to move my riding more to the track than the street, I would like a grippier tyre than the Corsa IIIs I currently run. However, as I will still be doing some road-riding, I do not want a tyre that will not provide me with optimal grip on the street, without needing to ride as if I'm on the track!!!

Thanks.

They came OEM on my 07 Daytona. They do not like to be cold for sure and pretty much are dangerous in wet weather. When hot yes they are like glue.

The other behavior I did not like was that they have a very triangular shaped carcass so there is an odd tip in feeling when negotiating the entry to a corner. I have recently switched to Michelin 2CTS and couldn't be happier with them.

If you are mainly on track days then it's a good choice, but be prepared for frequent replacement. Just my .02

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes I know they are horrible in the wet... fortunately I don't plan on doing any wet-weather riding

Good to hear they are "like glue" when hot, but my question is... do you have to ride like a madman to get them hot, or do they have comparable warm-up to other street tyres?

I ask because I discovered that to really get my Corsa IIIs in the zone, you have to ride constant twisties for a a good 3/4 miles, and once they are warm, if you hit a straight piece for the same distance you have to start all over again.

That is acceptable for me, but I would think twice about buying a tyre that requires even more warm up time.

Last question - you prefer the 2CTs to the Supercorsas then? Why?

Good track tire...Bad street. You need to warm them up good. I went through this a couple of years ago when the Corsa IIIs came out...Decided on the DC IIIs after talking to some of the guys who go to my shops track days...For track they are excellent...10R.net has tons of riders who ride Corsa IIIs on the track. A buddy lept his Pilot Race on for a while in the street...Those things wore quick.

Your Corsa IIIs get cold after you get out of the twisties? Dude...You throttling out of turn light or hard? Those tires stay hot for a bit once I am done. Heck on my morning commute I see a little balling up of rubber..Is it too cold still where you are? Cooling on a ride is something the DC IIIs are not known to do...Did you get a bootleg set of DC IIIs

Do you even need to ask?

WOT, every time, I'll have it no other way

I only realised this last weekend when I went on a long-day trip into serious twisties. At first I am hesitant on turn-in because I don't have a good feel for the front end. At first I thought it was just me who sucked Then when I realised that once into the twisties I began to feel the front end, I realised it was the tyres that had warmed up. Come out of the twisties, do some straight-line stuff, back into the twisties and I had the same vague feeling at the front which then went away again once we'd ripped it up a few minutes.

Either it's a psychological thing of mine or it's the tyres.

And when I talk about "tyres" I'm talking about the front end, I have no problems feeling the rear, may be my riding style. As a matter of fact I got my first real powerslide this weekend... felt fuggen AWESOME

Front is always light coming out of turns for me...10R is notorious for that so road feel coming out of turns get muted...In turns it is great....
You are probably throttling hard enough that the front feels light. There should be no problem with it "cooling" down...Same thing happened to on all my bikes...Light front due to front coming up a bit...You throttling in some serious power band then.

Believe me the DC IIIs are the mFs (mofoshz)!!!

I get the light feeling on turn in and at apex. Coming out of the corners you expect it if you are in the powerband. Get some nasty headshake every now and again too

Especially in the slow speed stuff. I turn in and I just don't feel the front end planted, it's like it's "floating" on the road. Once the tyres are nice and warm it goes away.

Hmmm...How's your suspension feel? That does not seems right. In turn in, the front should always feels planted. Floating is not good. You blow out anything on forks after your crash? IN a crash suspension gets f^&*( up.
