98-2003 zx9r engines interchange

I just bought a 98 zx9r and the rod got blew through the block. The motor is completely decked out, aftermarket carbs, cams, muzzy big bore kit 998 cc(Might still be good) ported and polished head. He said the engine is off a 01, and i was wondering if this could be true and if so could i take the parts off this 01 and bolt them on say a 99? I know all 98-03 engines have the same monting points, but is there any other problems with running a 01 engine on a 98 or vise versa? thanks

other than minor issues, the frames are basically the same, so i would think you should be able too.

Anyone know where i can get the id numbers on my engine and other engines figured out. The numbers currently are ZX900CE000821, so does that mean this was the 821st engine made for the 98 up zx9rs? If so then it is a 98 then. What year would ZX900CE054209 be? thanks, and im looking to buy an engine like...... today. I just want some info on how to id the engines and what is the best year? or what year to avoid when getting an engine. thanks again.
