Try this: double check the part numbers for the stock exhausts, if they are the same for both years they will work.

Kawasaki Motorcycle Parts, Kawasaki Dirt Bike Parts, Kawasaki ATV Parts and Kawasaki Jet Ski Parts

I looked up the parts here and they matched for 1994 and 2008 so they will fit, but I will not be liable if they don't.

The last time the 500r changed was in 1994, so those should be fine. Anything that fits a 1994-present should fit with no problems.

gr8ride/Daren: Shame on the both of you! Yes, you're both correct in the information that you gave--but you left out the most important point that ssteal hasn't even thought of: how crappy the bike will run once he's installed the pipes. Both of you to the corner...now!

Keep the stock pipes because that's what the engine is designed for. If you throw on any aftermarket pipes on the 500R, you're going to mess up the fuel mixture and your bike will never run the same way again. $100, huh? Get some grips, smaller turn signals for the front, new pegs if you're inclined, a cargo net, tank protector and then get a value meal with the money that's left over.

Can I come out of the corner now? , Is it that extreme of a change when you swap cans? I thought it just helped the engine breath better.... but other than that exhaust doesn't really affect how the bike runs. For maximum performance you need to rejet... and other than that exhaust really doesn't do much for the entire system except get exhaust out faster and complete a closed combustion system for required back pressure???

I am willing to be wrong on this, just inform me how so I can get out of the corner!

The lack of backflow from the exhaust swap will lean out the fuel mixture resulting in decreased acceleration and possible "dead spots" in the power curve (too much air, not enough fuel). Re-jetting along with a new air filter in order to allow more air in on the intake side to try to even out the decreased backflow will be nominal at best. Re-jetting usually just moves the dead spot on the power curve. I have yet to see a post where a 500R owner was completely happy with an aftermarket exhaust; the closest I've read are from Sarachu owners. Apparently adjusting the fuel mixture screws will eliminate the popping and the performance isn't affected by too much.

Live with the moped sound...it's a 500cc parallel twin and that's the only sound that you're going to get out of it no matter what you do to the exhaust. Get an exhaust when you upgrade to an in-line 4...that's what I did.

Okay, it's recess time!

well I am trading engine work for a two brothers exhaust, that's going on my 250, I know they don't increase hp but the do give me more ground clearance and reduce weight, so do I rejet and put in pod filters?

The best advice that I can give you is to ask in a 250R forum. I'm sure that that someone will be able to help you out with specifics. The weight reduction will be significant I'm sure (I reduced the weight on my Z1 by 30lbs by switching slip-ons) but remember, the re-jetting and air filter/pod switch will be an attempt to keep stock max hp. For me, I can't justify an exhaust change that requires a bandaid afterwards just to get it back to stock.

When I ordered the Leo Vince slip-ons for my Z1, I asked if I had to run the baffles (they are removable); the answer was that I could run without the baffles but I would definitely feel a power decrease unless I ran a PCIII also. So I got the pipes and installed them without baffles and here's the story (post #1 are my observations without baffles including loss of torque--post #30 is what happened when I put the baffles back in)...
