Default rear tire question? (noob)

Just got my bike 95 EX 500 about 5k for $1700
im a new rider but i am really happy with it. just putting
it back on the road only got to ride for roughly a month from when i
bought it but i noticed that when i bought it the rear tire needs to be
changed front looks perfect. i would like to go with a little bit
bigger rear tire. is it ok to go with the 150/60/17 and leave the front
tire size stock. only have enough cash for 1 tire at the moment. i could
keep saving to do them both but a friend can mount them for me so i thought
i could take advantage of it. let me know if its ok or not...

I'd ask some 500 riders about it but most of the time when you go to a larger rear tire you sacrifice handling. 500s have pretty small tires to start with so I'm not sure how bad it'll effect it.

I run a metzeler sportech m-120/70/17 in the front and a 150/60/17 in the rear. check out parts411.com...they have great prices and will beat anyones best price on anything. If the front tire is stock, it is a touring tire. If you change the rear to a sport tire, the front should match to optimize control. my front was about 85 and rear about 102....The dealer where i bought my bike from is nearbye.....i dropped off my new tires and gsxr 750 dog bones off before i brought my bike in. I rode my bike over and waited for the tires to be mounted and balanced, rear to be raise, and an inspection.....all for $35. Moral of the story...dont take the cheap way out when it comes to tires, especially when you are only riding on 2 to begin with.
