Circe, The item on the left is certainly the turn signal flasher relay, the right is probably the starter solenoid and main fuze with a spare fuze slot( the right side are guessed at based on the two studs w/ nuts and the size of the fuze still in the holder) Bikes

i started on a cruiser for the first 4k miles, but have a little over 2k on my rocket, and cant wait for it to stop snowing to put on more.. but even a newb can push these bikes to unbelievable performance levels it's not funny.. and as for passing one in the straights.. anyone speeding can pass some on who isnt.. Hit the throttle at the same time and we'll see who sits where. ex500 is a fine bike.. but as far as blowing past 600's i dont see it performance wise..

it depends on how long your legs are.
Height doesn't really mean anything, as a friend of mine is just a little taller than me but his longer legs mean his knees hit the sides of my fairing, which he finds uncomfortable. He has this problem with lots of sport bikes, so I suggested he get a cruiser, as he might seem more comfortable on one of those. |

I think it's got the looks but not necessarily the performance to match those looks. I love how light-weight it is and even though it has carbs it starts reliably every time for me. The little storage under the rear seat is something I'll look for on all my future bikes. I had to upgrade the stock seat to the Corbin and that really helped. I was able to take a 130 mile trip up to SB but still had to make somewhat frequent stops to stretch my legs and get the tingling out of my hands.
It's perfect if you never have to go faster than about 50. It runs at very high rpms if you are on the freeway and the suspension is just not up to handling bumps at 80mph. Some people think that a gear change will help. I think that will rob the bike of power, as it already needs full throttle for getting onto the freeway for my ride to work. I have to merge with traffic flying down the 405 at 70+ in the slow lane! |

I've seen an indicated 100 mph on the freeway with a slight downhill, but the speedo has lots of error! I once compared the indicated speeds to actual speeds using a GPS I attached to my tank and the speedo is off by about 3-4 mph at 70. I imagine it would be more at 100 but I am not taking the chance at that speed.
If you need to go fats this is the wrong bike to get. If you want a fast bike you'd be better off getting a used 500 Ninja or maybe a used SV650. A new ninja 250 will cost over $4,000 US. |

I've been up to 70 or so on my 05, and I didn't have much trouble getting it there. I'm still learning too, I've only got about 1000 miles under my belt, and 70 was plenty fast enough for me. Everyone has their own opinion on the 250's. I love my 250 and don't have any complaints about it. But it's not for everyone. You may be better off buying an older used one to start with. It will be less of an investment, especially if you find out you don't like it. I know they aren't as nice looking as the new ones, but you can always do some mods and make it look better, like I did with mine. The first pic is before, second one is after.

So, a little while ago I got a preowned 2005 Ninja 500r with about 11,000 miles on it. I've had no problems with it until today, when I noticed the oil warning light seems to blink on and off for no particular reason. Sometimes it's flickery, occasionally it's on solid.
Weird thing is, I usually notice it come on when the tachometer reads about 3,000 rpm. When I upshift and the rpm goes down, the light usually goes off. The bike isn't leaking any oil, and I don't smell/hear anything odd, and it seems to run fine. If I shut it off and turn it back on, the light will stay off for a while. The oil looks pretty old, but not low. So, does it sound like maybe an electrical problem, or the sensor being broken, or what? |

Yeah, the oil needs to be changed. But also I'm thinking, the place I live has a lot of steep hills, and I've heard that can cause the oil to hang at the back of the bike and trip the sensor? Might that account for the flickering? I think maybe the rpm thing was just a coincidence.
