That is normal, it's just the fumes from the gas purging from the tank. Mine does it after each ride too. Just to be sure, open the gas cap, and it will stop.

I just changed the oil in my 2008 ninja 250r and i cant get it to start. Its acting weird it almost wants to start in neutral, but doesn't. So... i figured try starting it in 1st gear but when i try to start it it wants to pull forward and makes a clicking sound and wont try to turn over really. i don't know what its wanting to pull forward in first gear its never done that before.
Any ideas? or has anyone else had this problem? |

Kay, so, everything seems to be okay so far. I got the oil changed, and since then I've hardly seen the oil light (except once, on kind of a rainy day, so maybe it's electrical or something? But another odd problem I seem to have is, sometimes if I'm going like 40 miles per hour or higher, suddenly the bike loses power for a second, like I let off the throttle. One time it just sort of died and I had to restart, but other times it's just been like a hiccup. Does that seem like the fuel in gunked up? It was sitting still for kind of a while until I was able to get a permit... should I just get some solvent or does it sound like it could be something else?

2005 EX-500 (500RR)
My bike has been sitting over the winter and I wanted to start it up this past weekend. I turned the key - the lights came on very dim and the bike cranked but wouldn't start. I got my friends battery charger and set it to the "start" mode and tried to start it. It cranked but now the bike is completely dead.... I left the charger on the battery overnight (2 amps) and the battery showed "charged" but again I tried in the morning and it didn't crank at all. At that point the bike is completely dead - NO lights at all I checked ALL fuses that are located in the box above the battery and all seem to be OK. Does anyone have any ideas? |

My situation sounds similar. I've ridden my 1987 VT700c Shadow for 2 years / 6K miles but would like a sport bike. Part of my problem is I've never ridden a sport bike, so don't know if I want a 500 or a 650. When you got your 500, did you feel like there wasn't a big bump in 'fun factor' compared to cruiser performance? I found out that my Shadow actually makes 57hp (but, at 7k rpm which I've never seen), which is more than the 500. I'd really like a sport bike, but am very hesitant to get a 500 if I'm going be underwhelmed by its performace right from the start.

Hello,
I just got a blue 2007 ninja 250 and was wondering what i can do about that rear fender, i know i can do a fender eliminator kit, but where do i get them from and how much do they usually run? also is there a way to turn the two outside lights next to the tail light into blinkers even if they blink red? |

It's a single contact socket, with two wires, and prongs around the outside of it. If you take your bike apart, and take a look at the tail light socket, it's very similar to that.

Nice bike...OK - I've got 95 250 Ninja - gets about 70 mpg with Midgrade and it is starting to get a little tired - 30K miles and I am thinkin bout the new one -08 or 09...so those of you with the new 250 Ninja, what kind of gas mileage are you getting? I have heard they are getting around 60 mpg, which I do not think is too good compared to my old one, but I know the new bike is heavier, so that must be most of the reason...as I think the engine it has is virtually the same.

I'm looking for some flush mount front signals. I've been hearing about 2 and 3 wire. ninja 500 has 2 or 3 wires? I'm at work and take a look right now and hope someone will answer before I get off. I am so bored if you can't tell
