Ditto.

There are some exausts that don't require rejetting on the 500r and sound good. I hate to write youtube again but if you watch some vids/sound bites(they aren't that good of quality usually but you'll get a rough overview) then scroll down and read the comments the person that posted the video will usually answer weather on not they rejetted. But allot of the guys that say this or that on youtube(esp. about the 500r) don't know jack about how an engine works.
Allot of time people say you can get away with adjusting the mixture screw. With more air in or more air out you need more fuel.
If you can adjust the mix screw to achieve this great, if not than rejetting is required. Also remeber that altitude can have an effect on needing new jets or not so just bc the guy on youtube(in florida) got away without a rejet that doesn't me that you will necessarily due to where you live in relation to his elevation VS. yours.
Note I have never done anything to my 500r(I just fix stuff allot). I would suggest maybe going to a 500r specific site those guys are sure to have the real cheat sheet on what you need to know.

Dead battery charge it then start it to prove that is the prob. or role down a hill and pop it into gear, if the battery has any charging capability at all it should stay running either is ok.
then most likely replace the battery,. Then get a battery tender to charge your battery in the future it will last much longer and be ready to go when you need it.
Post on the mechanic portion of this site in the future its a better source for gearheads.

When was the last time you rode it? I ride mine a few times a month in the winter on those days of no precip or ice just to keep my battery up. Otherwise you need the battrery tender as stated.

i have a brand new 2009 ninja 250 and i didnt winterize it because we started it every week for a good 10 15 min. but the last 3 months i think we didnt cause it was too cold and we had it in a garage 30 min away and the weather was bad. and i tried starting it but it wouldnt start. so i figured the battery was dead so i bought a charger and charged it. it starts now but as soon as it starts it dies. ive tried to use it with and without choke and tried to pull the throttle a little but every time it just dies as soon as it starts. idk if its cause the weather her is a bit cold still or what. weather is like 30s. any suggestions would be great.

The gas is probably bad, and you may have some gunk in your carbs from it sitting. You could try some seafoam and see if that helps. The carbs are real picky on the 250's. Next time I would put fuel stabilizer in it, and run the bike with the fuel petcock shut off until it dies, so there is no gas sitting in the carbs. I did this with my bike, it did die a few times, but that was to be expected, the carbs had to fill back up.

If you have gas with ethanol in it, it shouldn't be too bad since the alcohol (ethanol) does blend with water. Does it smell like it is flooding with fuel while or when you get it started? If you left your fuel valve on the tank on check to see if you have fuel in your oil. Mine had a hard time starting on some 25 degree days It was fine once I got it to warm up, but it did take some excessive choke compared to now.

Has anyone ever tried to fit a fairing from an old zx6 the same style as the 500r? That would be an interesting find.

Well on my ride into work this morning I smelled the clcutch and noticed I had less pull. I don't do crazy things that burn the clutch. I guess I have to adjust the clutch now. I have about 5,000 miles on the bike now and I bought it new. Anyone have any experience with the clutch's on the 500R? I was wondering how often it needs maintenance.

Heh...so...uh, I never thought I'd be this kind of poster buuut...

I've just got a 2003 Ninja 500, and am trying to install a Cyclone 866F alarm system on it. The only wire I cannot locate is the ACC wire coming from the CDI box. I need to clip this wire in order for the starter immobilizer to work. I haven't had the time to get a manual yet, but if someone wouldn't mind identifying it for me or sending a picture/diagram, I'd appreciate it greatly.

I have an '08 250 Ninja. I'm going to the dragstrip with my husband and a couple of friends in 2 weeks for Test & Tune day. Has anyone, who has a 250 Ninja, taken it to the dragstrip? If so, what was your time? I'm just curious as to how I should do. Also, any advice? I've been to the dragstrip before, but only watch my husband. It'll be my first time actually riding there.

Not really Ninja 250 specific, but know your horsepower and torque curves. It is a waste of your time and gas to be pinning the throttle past peak hp or torque. Learning how to shift not only quickly but efficiently and knowing how your bike is geared can work wonders for time-saving.

Jumping back to my somewhat boneheaded question earlier, since I figured it out I may as well post a solution.

If you are installing an alarm system on a post-1994 Ninja 500, this could apply to you. My experience is only on the 2k3 model, but to my knowledge, nothing will have changed within that range. Visually check connections with a voltmeter or otherwise before making cuts or stripping wires. I take no responsibility for you messing up your bike

Now, if your alarm has a starter immobilizer feature on it and you wish to wire it in, the wire you are looking for is from the kill switch to the main bike power. It will be red with yellow striping and brown crosshatches, and can be accessed easily near your junction box (fuse box). This is what you are looking for because the ignition system is transistorized, as opposed to using a capacitor. If you spend 4 hours looking for a CDI box, you will have wasted it all, because it doesn't exist. Trust me.

Antisipate the greenlight, it will feel like your going to redlight but you won't. Kawasaki Ninja 250 - New Thread, 12/2008 - Thailand Forum
Here is a link to some # I found on the bike. There is also a video on it aswell, on youtube.
Also being at the stageing line is so fun.

BTW-I ownly have dragged cars but the advise I gave is all the same.

They aren't labeled. But first gear is all the way down, half a click up is neutral, then up from there is 2,3,4 and so on.

It's one of those things that you just "get used to" really. On my bike I can know exactly what gear I'm in by how loud it is, and by where my RPM's are sitting. And btw 250's have 5 gears, do they not? Especially the newer models right?
NOW IF you get a bigger bike, especially newer like a ninja zx-6r or gixxer600, they do tell you what gear you're in, digital speedo and stuff.

There are only a few bikes with a reverse in them. Mainly Gold Wing's and maybe an Ultra Glide, that is because ytou need it. It takes all of your leg strength just to move them forward on flat ground could you imagine pushing a 1,000 lbs bike backwards.
