Default 250 transmission engaging issue

I've got a 93 ninja 250 that I acquired about a year ago, and have been trying to get it running. It was last registered back in 95, and was running then. I got the bike to turn on and idle, etc. Here's the problem I'm running into:

I've got the bike on the center stand, crank it over and shift into 1st, now the problem comes about. So on occasion when I let out the clutch the rear wheel will begin to turn and suddenly stop rotating. From then on the wheel doesn't want to spin, even if I shut the bike off and turn it back on and shift into gear again. Even if I pull on the throttle with the clutch out it doesn't spin.

Any ideas?

I have already tried tightening the clutch cable (which I replaced) and nothing changes.

Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated, thanks.

Hmm...tough to say when you are on your center stand. Maybe your idle jets are partially blocked?

You could have some gear case issues. Is your rear wheel out of alignment where the chain is pulling at an angle causing some binding?

I had originally thought that might be the issue. So I took the carbs off and went through them thoroughly cleaning everything. Didn't seem to help, but I was able to get the throttle to respond better, but no wheel spin.

Is the Ninja 500 R too small for me at 6'2" ?

I need a commuter bike to slice through freeway clogs and
I'm starting to favor a blue Ninja 500 R for the slim and nimble qualities.

At first I wanted a 600 or 650 size and checked the specs on the Versys and ER-6N.

Hey everyone. I have a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250ex. The problem with my bike is that every time I start up my bike and gun the throttle a little bit the bike will shut off. We've had the Ninja for over a year now but I only began riding it last month. Any suggestions as to why this is happening?

Two things: First off you need to let the bike warm up a little bit. 2nd you need to learn how to use the choke. That's the black lever on next to the high beam switch.

Thank you for replying to my post. I do let the bike warm up and I do use the choke. Even after riding for a while when I leave the bike off for 10 minutes I have to rev up the bike before it will ride off. If not, it will stall when I gun the throttle.

OH and are you the ChrisW from the dot net?

Don't gun the throttle. You could be flooding it.

by laws of basic physicals.. a 330lbs motorcycle is going to be easier to turn then a 458lbs motorcycle?

i know tires are a factor for grip but it seems like a ninja 250 is going to be more nibble then a zx10 even if the zx10 is a billion times most powerful. yes? yes?

Default tire time

I have around 7.5k on the back tire and it time to change. What's a good one that has a good tread life?

You're floats could be sticking. Get the carbs cleaned, or at a minimum run some seafoam through. When my 500 started not liking to throttle and stall at speeds a quick carb clean did the trick.

It has a lot more to do with gyroscopic effects of the tires and engine rotating mass than the actual weight of the bike. A liter bike has MUCH larger rotating masses which will literally fight a change in direction. When you move up from a 250, the larger bike WILL tire you out for a while because it takes more effort to ride.

Default '09 EX-500 Ninja exhaust

I just installed some D & D slip-ons on my Ninja. I opted for the slip-ons so I could keep the center stand & lower faring.

I gotta tell you, the sound is unbelievable! And I swear I have better throttle response. Jetting & high flow air cleaner are coming next.

ISSUE: I have some leakage around the joints. Other than cranking down on the brackets, any suggestions? Is there a seal I can use?

Thanks in advance.

It is easier to drop a lighter bike into a turn. Handling like all around the heavier bikes are much better on stability especially on the highway from wind and passing semi's.
