Opinions needed about "Pig spotter" mirrors. I'm thinking about installing some but not having a bike to sit on that already has them it holding me back. Any blind spots ? more/less vibrations ? Will I have to ride bent over or still see them sitting up normal ?

Default Clutch not disengaging

Hello!
I have a problem with my 500. When I pull in my clutch the gear doesn't disengaging properly. I can change the gear, but it doesn't disengage the gear when the clutch is pulled in. There's nothing wrong with the handle or the cable. It's definitely something with the actual clutch, but I opened it up and nothing is obviously broken. Does anyone have any suggestions on what it could be or how to fix this please?

Default airbox mod w/extras

so i completed the airbox mod only with a few changes. i drilled the left side airbox cover with a hole large enough to put another tube like the one in the right side, then i plugged the hole that was under the seat. then i nstalled the K&N air filter and the carburetor recalibration kit that came in the k&n box {made by dyno jet} which made the bike ride like a totally different bike.i havent drilled the slide holes out yet but im tempted to. there is actually a full powerband, and if im crusing at 60 in 6th and slam the throttle open the bike takes off. its so sweet.

cool jason! i also did away with my airbox and installed the k&n pods and used factory pro's jets and needles. It's much more entertaining to ride now, i have a 15 tooth front sprocket and 2-5 gear is a blast.

so you did the FOG airbox mod but still but a carb jet kit in? That FOG guy told me that there was no need...but even with the airbox mod (with my new exhaust anyways) I've noticed that my powerband is less than stellar...i was thinking about putting a jet kit in though...but u said a really sweet power band right? sounds good...i still gotta put some new tires on mine as well

Default Cheap exhaust mod for 250

So my Hubby wanders into the garage the other night, and a few minutes later I hear his bike running, of course this sparks my curiosity, I'm wondering what he could be doing out there. He's grinding a very large drill bit, once he finishes that, he puts it on the drill. So I asked him "Are you drilling the exhaust on your bike?" He told me I had the last part wrong, and he proceeds to stick the drill bit down the muffler of my bike, and starts drilling away. I said what the heck are you doing to my bike, leave it alone. He tells me to go in the house and get my keys. He drilled out the other muffler while I got the keys. It actually sounds pretty good now. A bit louder, and a bit of a deeper sound. So if you want to change the sound of stock mufflers, just drill out the baffle in the muffler, all you need is a drill and a bit. Just thought I would stick it in here.

Hey guys, new to street riding, use to ride dirt. I am looking at a 08/09 250 as a starter bike. Just a few questions.

Does it have ability and power to support someone of my size? 6'2 250lbs?

I want to have a bike where I can safely learn the fundamentals, but at the same time be capable to save my butt around these 'wonderful' drivers.

Absolutely. I have a 250 and a 650r. Now - while I am only 6' and 180 pounds, this bike is fully capable of two up riding.

Keep in mind - most of the power on these bikes are made in the upper RPM range. Once you release the fear that getting into the upper range will make it blow up, you are golden.

It will be slightly cramped, but when you are learning, you want a friendly ride which that bike is.

I have an '07 that i bought new. That was a mistake (buying new). Get an older '01-'05 and get acquainted then upgrade to a 650r or similar as I did.

Hey thanks, i guess I should go down to the dealership and see how one fits my size. I am not fat, just kept my build from my football days. When you say cramped, are we talking about awkward riding position due to my height?

I've read/heard to buy used, but I have a thing for buying new, that way I know the condition of said item. And it shouldn't be a big issue as the 250's hold their value extremely well from what I have heard?

1. Cramped in leg position, since the rearsets aren't back as far, and the seat height is a "bit" low. My 650r fits me absolutely perfectly, but I managed fine on my 250 for the last 3 seasons.

2. Resale value: that's arguable. I have had my '07 on Craigs List for $2100 for awhile, nobody biting. Could be end of season on that though.

Mine is immaculate. I always changed the fluids, wiped down, etc. Chances are good that if there are some in your area, you can take a look at them and find that it's obvious they were well taken care of. Buying brand new is such a hit on value. You could pick up an 08 used with hardly any miles for $1000 less than a new '09. Just my two cents.

I see, now would a 650r be a decent starter bike? I do have a background in riding, granted it was awhile ago, so I think I could make the transition up to the 650r, I just want to get acquainted for a year or two with street riding, hone my skills and jump into the 600 super sport bikes.

I think the 250 is perfect for someone who is coming from a scooter, or absolutely zero experience. The 650r will take you from zero to speeding like a maniac a bit faster, and gives you fuel injection to boot.

I am glad I started on my 250, but unlike you, I don't have any plans to go further than the 650r. It goes super fast, is very comfortable, and pretty good looking.

Depending on what you had for a street bike before, the 650r will either help or hurt you. It's got a lot more HP and torque than the 250 so "stupid" mistakes like hitting the throttle at the wrong time won't raise the front wheel. On the 650, throttle control is much more important.

One last thing - if you are thinking of Super Sports - bypass the 650r. It's twice the price of the 250, and may be much harder to sell since it's around the cc's of a super sport. For goodness sake - if this is a transitional bike, don't buy new. You will regret it when you upgrade.

My opinion. Hopefully others will chime in.

In regards to selling a 650R, it's a totally different buyer. Supersports cost a few thousand more, the riding position is much more aggressive, the gas mileage is quite a bit less, and the insurance is double. The 650R buyer wants a sportbike, wants the "Ninja" name, but also wants to be comfortable and not pay a lot of money for a bike. That's the reasonable person. The guy with money in his pocket to burn just comes in, buys a ZX-10 or ZX-14, and it only gets used for 1,500 miles a year. It sits next to his Corvette and boat in his three-car garage. How do I know this? I spend a lot of my spare time at my local Kawasaki/Honda dealer and will assist them on the sales floor when they get busy. The owner doesn't pay me anything, she's just thankfull for my help and takes care of me when I need parts or service. It's a nice arrangement.

I think I need to adjust my fuel mixture on my 500R. The exhaust is smelling a little rich.

Without looking at the bike, it's really hard to say. Based on the low RPM (rough, I assume) and the smoke, I would guess it's the fuel / air delivery being set wrong. Take the bike to a shop and have them work it out for you. What color is the smoke (white, black, blue), that determines what liquid is the culprit.

white black or blue...in this case, it sounds like rich or burning oil either way its seems to be fouling plugs
