ill probably go with the 500 because there is alot of them for sale in my area and ive only found 1 250 for the same price as the 5. I also dont want to get the 650 because im afraid it might be alittle to heavy for me to maneuver or pick up if i bail. And my dad is personally making me take the MSF course, because hes a freak for safety which is cool tho in my opinion, also hes a long time friend with one of the instructors so i might get a discount or special attention or something.

Doing stoppies whats your experiences on them and we're you scared the first time you did it? also will I need to take an advance course to learn how to do the turns where you touch your knee to the ground or will that be taught in regular training?

Default Need Help with 250R

I am rebuilding a '93 250R and need some help.

1) Does anyone have a bike diagram?
2) Where is the fuel adjuster on the carb?

Thanks

For the bike diagram (Fiche) go to http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/getyea...a&groupid=3060

That will get you a start on what goes where. As for the fuel adjuster, I can't help but I know someone else can. Good luck on the rebuild. Stick some photo's up so we can see the progress.

hi all ,

I just put an exhaust system on a 500, and I hate it . It's not very good, but at least it was cheap . I think I'm going to swap it for a full Muzzy system. now that I have rejetted my carburetors for the system that I don't like , do I need to rejet them again when I put the Muzzy on?

More help...

I'm about to buy an 06 500R... how is the reliability on the bike? I plan to keep up on the standard maintenance, but is there cause to pay the extra money for an extended warranty? If so, for how long?

According to my local dealer, standard warranty is good for 1 yr. an extended is 500 for 2 yrs, and it's available to 3(?) yrs. I get the feeling that the extended warranty is just a way for them to make an extra 500 (or it should be).

My 500R rocks! I bought mine in Apr. It has consistently held up to the remarkable challenges I've placed upon it. I'm a little bit hardcore when it comes to the demands I place on my bike. This bike is capable of doing everything I want a motorcycle to do. However , it is not a very fast bike . I live in an area of the mountain's of Virginia where there are many roads with consecutive hairpin turns and downright scary curves. This bike is able to handle them as if I were on a well manicured MOTOGP track . Many people that I've talked to have ridden the 500 for years and been completely satisfied. Although I will certainly stick with Kawasaki bikes, I will probably be trading mine in for a R10 this fall.

In my opinion, I purchase the extended warranty (4 Years) for my 06' 250R. I wasn't going to but I figure if anything goes wrong with it, I have a full 5 Years NOT to worry about it. It covers everything but wear items @ just under $400.00 added to the price of the bike. Not so bad because I talked em' down a bit and that basically cover the price of the warranty.

That is a deal... I didn't get anything close to that offered... so I turned it down. As it stands, I've made the buy.. I'm now the proud owner of a Red 06 500R (Ex500 as far as my insurance co. is concerned).

However, everyone at the dealer I've gone through seems to be an idiot:
* They didn't have an owner's manual for me so I'll have to stop back in to pick it up
* It took them 2.5 hours to get my bike set up for me to drive it away, wasting the clear skies, and forcing me to ride home in the rain.
*They couldn't even tell me what the first service interval is, or what the break-in procedure should be. (500 miles, and read the sticker on the tank guys).

My impression? Wow! I think I'm going to be a very happy guy. It proved very nimble. Even in the rain (with a freakin' 3/4 loaner lid from my harley buddy) it brought one helluva smile to my face. Tomarrow I'll find a full face helmet, and prepare for the MSF course.

All that said, and I appologize for the short novel; I'd like to thank everyone from this forum for their help and information. Even though I've only been registered for a short time, I've been lurking and reading for some time. The information I found here greatly assisted me in my purchase.

I got my EX500 on Tuesday. I've only had time to put 14 miles on it so far

7 of those today after I got up. I'm planning on doing at least 100 miles on the bike this weeekend. I would like to be past the break in period before the end of the month.

I really like the bike. It is too quite though. sounds like a sewing machine.

Oh, I also I got the DVD "Faster". I'll watch it today.

Nope, no fuel gauge.
Ninja 500R gets about 180 miles per tank (or at least I did), keep track of your miles and know when to use your reserves!

Ok, I want past the break-in as quick as possible. 4K RPM in 6th gear = 50mph! crap! It will take like 10 hours of riding to break it in at that rate.

LOL!

I'm in the same boat man. I have about 200 miles clocked so far, but not going over 4k RPM is killing me. Still, this bike is great aside from a vibration in the fairing that rubs against the tank at idle. I have to find out how to stop that before it drives me mad.

+1 on the break-in.....I hated that period!
Also, the vibration does suck, a good thing to do is to check that the screws and such are tight, it helps a little, I found mine were not screwed in enough, anyway, fixed them and vibration wasn't as bad.

btw..I LOVE MY 500R!
did my first loong trip on Canada Day....about 300kms!

I'm really enjoying my 500R. I'm up to 70 miles now(I don't get a lot of free time to go play).

I read Twist of the Wrist II which helped me a bit. I'm working on placing my weight more on the foot pegs and not trying to balance on the seat so much. It does make a huge difference when turning.

One thing though that confuses me is the author's suggestion to "turn quicker". i'm not sure what he means. He also makes this statement along with the observation that many riders lean too much for the corner they are taking and the speed they are taking it at. I really don't get this. Anybody wanna take a shot at illuminating it for me?

Sorry I haven't posted more often. My 500 had its compression give out while on the I-10 freeway. Even had coolant leaking from both sides of heads. Luckily I got the extended warranty - only a year old. It may be up for sale when it gets back. I saw the new ZX-14 at the dealer and liked it so much I now own one. Very nice, definatly not a beginners bike. Still thinking about keeping the 500 though.

yup its tests your patience....i hopelessly watch all vehicles passing me since could not cross 4x1000 rpm. i tried to stick to strict 4K rpm but most of the time i was either at 4500rpm sometimes even at 5000rpm. i got past 500miles yesterday and am looking forward for a zipzapzoom rides.
what is the right number miles to take it to first service to dealer?
cheers.....
